PSTEVENS9 0 Posted February 15, 2008 Well, I went to SWLC yesterday and met with Dr. Mumford. What a difference from CIBO. I'm sold. I left work at 2 and was home by 4. Dr. Mumford was very professional, explained things very well and, the place actually looked like a clinic with waiting room, receptionists, examination rooms, everything. I was impressed. I will be booking my surgery soon. Thanks to everyone for your input.
Gaffer 1 Posted February 16, 2008 That is why you dont book surgery at a clinic started my a dry cleaner. Andrew
Doddie63 6 Posted February 16, 2008 How do you know it was started by a dry cleaner? Doddie
Gaffer 1 Posted February 16, 2008 I did some looking into the guy that started the clinic after I had heard that it started up. Tom Sarids, the founder of the clinic is the owner of Fabricare in Toronto. EBSCOhost Connection: Tom Saridis: Cockeyed optimist, or on to a good thing?. I am not saying that is a bad thing. They guy has a lapband, and has been successful himself with his weight loss. I have to give the guy some credit. He has the chops to start a new start a new lapband clinic in the most saturated market with the 2 most successful Canadian clinics. Andrew

E.L. 0 Posted February 17, 2008 The lack of positive support for CIBO in the Lap Band community scared me off from ever considering them! I think that was a loud and clear signal to me. I'm so glad that I was able to find a financal option to choose SWLC, the one I knew in my heart would be the best choice for me. They all put me so at ease that everything would turn out fine if I chose them to do my surgery.
jane.c 0 Posted February 17, 2008 I'm glad you were able to go with the clinic of your choice. I'd sooner wait years for the funding to be in place and go with the clinic I feel good about than to get it done now with someone I felt bad about. This is a lifetime relationship so it's not worth settling for anything but the best for yourself.
Doddie63 6 Posted February 17, 2008 Juney: There are plenty of posts about clinics. Questions: Where do you live - clinic(s) closest to you. What are their policies of after care. Are they free or do they charge. For instance TLBC charges 18,000 but all after care is free, including band replacement, port corrections, slipped bands, erosion etc. They also have a fluro. Dr. Yau has done more than 16000 surgeries whereas CIBO for instance is just starting up. The other clinic in Toronto is SWL who also have a tremendous reputation. So to start, if you are in Ontario, look at the TLBC and SWL clinics. If you are in Alberta, they have fine clinics as well. BC, Sask, Man, Maritone no such luck that I know of. I am sure someone will post if they know of other clinics in Canada. As for going out of Country, many do to Mexico and to the USA. Personally would not be my choice due to the problems of after care. Well this is start good luck. Doddie
Gaffer 1 Posted February 17, 2008 There are no private clinic available for lap band in Alberta at this time. There are clinics that perform the procedure for the public health care system, but they are not availabel for people to self pay. This may change in the very near future, like after our provincial election. Andrew
juney1968 2 Posted February 18, 2008 hey Doodie, thanks for your reply. I'm going to ask something stupid now..... what is clbo, tlbc, swl? Like I said I'm a newbie! thanks
Doddie63 6 Posted February 18, 2008 Hi In response to your question on the abbreviations, they are the names of the clinic, Surgical Weight Loss Clinic, Toronto Laproscopic Clinic, CIBO is a new clinic I do not know what the letters stand for. I only one I could and would recommend based on my knowledge are the first two. You will have to go to all the websites and make your decision on your research. jane.c 0 Posted February 18, 2008 Juney, Here are the websites for the 2 most popular clinics in Ontario. Laparoscopic Band Surgery (Lap / Stomach Band Weight Loss Surgery) | TLBC (The Laparoscopic Band Centre) TLBC Toronto Weight Loss Obesity Surgery Lap Band Bariatric Surgeon Gastric Bypass SWLC I wouldn't go near CIBO with a 10 foot pole after the hellish experience they put me through. It looks as though 3 of us had contact with them and all 3 of us have gone elsewhere. Check out the 2 links I provided and start corresponding with them to see where you feel more comfortable. Both offer free consultations so you have nothing to lose. What are of the country are you from? There are other surgeons in other provinces so if you let us know, we can help you find one out of Ontario if you happen to live out of Ontario.
