bloodsugars during pre-op

Recommended Posts

On the Pre-op diet, I knew the difficult part for me

would be the blood sugar. My physician said to keep a

close watch on the blood sugars and adjust medicines

accordingly.

Day 1 - Sunday - at 3:15AM this morning, had an attack

which equals to feeling like an earthquake is going on

inside my body. Got up and ate Peanut Butter and drank

a glass of 1% milk. Don't know my blood sugar reading

because I wasn't physically able to take it. Went back

to sleep.

Day 2 - Monday - at 3:15PM mild attack at work, I just ate

some sugar-free pudding and I still feel shaky. bloodsugar =

102. Haven't taken any medication today.

I got to make it to Wed Jan 16, 2008 when I have my surgery.

The main reason I applied for the LapBand is because I couldn't

decide to eat light, I'm always having to feed the diabetes and

medicines, that's how I kept gaining weight. Anyway, I'll keep

plugging on because I want my liver to be ready for next Wednesday

but if you have any words of advice I'd appreciate it.

The liquid diet is not so bad because I've got various things to

drink. I put spices - cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice - in my

Low-Carb Slim Fast vanilla Creme to make it taste like eggnog.

I like Diet V8 Splash berry Blend. In broth, I put just a few

pieces of broccoli in it just so I could bite into something.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
