Shrinkin' Violets- Part 2 Read Here

Recommended Posts

Good Morning, Violets..

Just looked at my phone and I had a message from Tracyk. She's asking us for prayers as she has been vomiting all night and is headed to the doctor. I pray she is alright and has not damaged the band.

It's cold and snowing here. We are putting the lights on the front tree and will be done with decorating today, I hope. I slept in til 8:30 this morning and the Bobster is still sleeping, but I think he was up at 4 a.m. for awhile so I won't wake him now.

Going to get some Breakfast. Everyone have a good day and keep TracyK in your prayers.

(((Tracy)))

I have had this rash come & go on my hands since about 2 months preg.. It was so miserable last night. It flares up for a day and it's gone the next, then comes back another day, etc. Last night my hands were burning so bad like they were in an ant bed.. and I couldn't find any relief (healing lotion, benadryl cream, aloe vera).

Anyone seen anything like this or have ideas? I have no known allergies, and it is occurring on both hands (besides the cheap metal, but that's not a diagnosed allergy and I don't have any cheap metals on my hands)

Laura, it looks like excema (sp) to me. Call your Dr. though and see what they say, if it is excema it clears up pretty fast with appropriate medicine (cream).

Have a good one!! By the way when is your ultrasound??

My docs keep kind of glazing over it. It feels a lot worse than it looks, so they are more concerned about the ringworm on my back (which is not a concern to me since I don't feel it!!)

Find out if it's a boy or girl on Dec. 11th!

Good morning...........

OK, so Robby started meds yesterday and the nurse ended up calling me to come get him.... LUCKILY it was a temp from the flu shot that was wrong. He was mellow but still "Robby" and boy howdy I could tell when they wore off around 4:30p because he was bouncing off the walls from excitement over wrestling practice.. he was extremely hyper.. so it was a good thing he ran laps and did all kinds of work out stuff.

2nd thing was my mammo.......... short version: Normal

but not after some tense moments..... they made me wait for the radiologist to look at it and then he wanted MORE..... apparently I have a spot in my left breast that he deemed dense tissue that was overlapping itself.

Thanks for all the prayers.

Good afternoon, Violets...

Well, the tree outside has over a thousand lights on it. It was touch and go trying to get everything lit at once, but it's DONE! We have 8 minature pine trees with lights and two lighted deer, plus the lighted garland on the porch and lights around the roof line of the house. We have never put so many out before, but we bought a ton at half price at the end of the season last year. I still have a closet full of lights, but they'll be good back ups.

Laura.. I don't know what the rash is. Why are your docs not treating it??? Is it a symptom of the ringworm?

TracyinKS.. whew on the NORMAL mammagram!!! And looks like the meds will be helpful to Robby once they are regulated properly. Things are looking up for you! Excellent!!

Chili is ready for lunch and then off to my flute rehearsal and gig and then choir and dinner afterwards. Will check back later tonight. Everyone have a good day.

Hope TracyK can check in...

My docs are more concerned about the ringworm, they kind of breeze over my hand issue. My obgyn said to put hydrocortizone on it.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY TRACY!!!!!!!!!!

Today is gonna be all kinds of good news, I can tell. Go ahead, everyone share your good news for today!

I'll go 2nd :)

Russell's family is officially coming down for Thanksgiving!! I am glad now that I never caused a big fight about it, because now I don't look like a bad guy and I got what I want. I say officially, there's a small chance he has to get the stints (you were right Kat, it has to do with putting them in his veins to increase circulation) before Thanksgiving, but I am hopeful that nothing will ruin this, and the planets will align that he has the surgery after Thanksgiving.

Then it turned into, his mom wants to know what to bring. Hmmmmmm. It's such a tradition at our family, everyone makes specific stuff.. like, there's this huge family and even though my parents have a mansion, we Celebrate Thanksgiving at my granny's house.. a small 2 bedroom house from the 50's..and we sit on piano benches, couches, and stools at folding tables in the living room.. but it's tradition, so no one minds! Along with that, granny makes the turkey (an old fashioned way where the turkey is always dry, but she won't listen to all the new ways to cook it so that it stays moist!!) and her stuffing, etc.. Russell wants his mom to bring her stuffing, which is a different kind of stuffing. But I think you all can see how that would be an issue, 2 stuffings for 1 Thanksgiving! Dun dun dun. So that's the drama I'm avoiding right now.. Still excited about them coming down!!!

And Russ' bro who is 23 just told him he's engaged to this 39 year old with 3 kids he's been seeing.. FUN. I've heard about her, no job,3 baby daddy's and one has tried to beat up russ' bro.

I hope everyone has a great afternoon.

Kat: How are you feeling these days?

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
