Shrinkin' Violets- Part 2 Read Here

Hey Everyone~

Terry~ Stay strong honey! This is a terrible time for you, but your mom is so lucky to have you to worry about her. There are so many seniors who do not have anyone. Read, pray, eat, call a violet...whatever it takes to get through this. Purple Power for you and your mom's health. Keep us posted!

Well, I went to dance class again. It has been 2 weeks and I missed it. I moved very gingerly w/ my knees, but still got a great workout. I am supposed to FINALLY see my doctor tomorrow (primary) and just realized they did not call and confirm...which means they will probably cancel on me. I wonder if the doctors know what biotches are running their practice. I am gonna blow a freakin gasket if they try that again.

Gotta go do work stuff. I am swamped...I am every spring.

Have a great night!

Pamela

Evening, Violets..

Just in from the hot tub and as I was laying back to do my ab crunches, I look up and see the moon and realize I missed the lunar eclipse.. arghhhhhhhhhhh Would have been so neat to watch in the hot tub.

Tomorrow I have a funeral to go to. A gentleman from Bob's little church died and I am to play flute during the service. Only trouble is, the widow is such a character. She's LOUD, obnoxious and often time hilarious. Bob said when he was at the funeral home tonight, she grabbed his butt a couple of times. Now, how many of you have grabbed your pastor's butt????? And whenever she sees me, she swats me on the arm and yells.. HEY,WHEN YA GONNA PLAY THAT THING AGAIN?? She can't remember if I play flute or trumpet. So I can just picture what is going to happen tomorrow when I walk in with my flute. And hopefully she won't make any comments during How Great Thou Art. It's going to be an adventure for sure. She's in her late 70's and has the brightest red hair you've ever seen. Oh Lordy, I'm gonna need prayers tomorrow!!!

Well, I'm off to get out of this wet bathing suit and into my nammies. Everyone have a good night. sleep well.

Morning Violets~

I am supposed to go to doctor today, but have a feeling I don't have an appt because they never called to confirm. This is going to be the 2nd time this happened. Keep your fingers crossed...I want to see my doctor damn it!

The knees survived the workout!:) I was worried...No Squats!

Terry~Keep us posted...we are all here for you!

TracyK~BB is pretty good...huh? I am watching last nights show now. Wish I had more time. That is why I love it in the summer. I am not working and can totally engross myself in it! I don't even have time to watch the regular shows...let alone the showtime stuff (that is the good stuff)!

Kat~Sorry about your tooth. That lady was a total bitch...and is power trippin over the schedule. I bet the doctor doesn't even know how bitchy she is!

Have a great day!

Good morning!

It snowed a bit last night............ blechhhhhhhhh!

Terry: Hugs and prayers and our spirits are with you today in all that you must go through.

My sister just had another cancer scare last week and didn't tell my mom or I until the tests came back clean..... (I broke down in tears) plus I was p.o.'d that she left us out ............ her health has always scared me... she has always been the thin gorgeous one but she has had more than her share of health issues...... so as we are now middle aged it scares the crap out of me............

OK.... anyway...... I think my body must be shifting again because even though the pounds are not really flying off my clothes are fitting better... and its becoming more noticable...... my 17 yr old neice who hasn't seen me in about 4 weeks said that I look thinner than the last time and that has only been about 3 lbs..

Have a great day..

I'll check in later.

Morning girls...

Terry - hugs to you and your family. We'll keep ya'll in our prayers. Keep us updated on her condition when you can.

Stormy yucky day here in Houston today. I'm still trying to shake the sicky out of me. Weird thing is that my appetite is back full force and I have hardly any restriction. That's not good.

I went to the eye doctor yesterday because my right eye has been feeling funny. Well I have a full blown infection. I wore my contacts throught my whole sickness and never changed them out and I got an eye infection. So now I'm wearing my glasses. I hate wearing glasses when it's humid and rainy.

I haven't weighed myself in about a week and I think I'm gonna wait another week to do it. I'll go back to the gym on Friday.

Don't forget that today is CTCD! And since Suzie hasn't checked in I will remind everyone to get your Water in.

I've been 240lbs for days now. 240.2lbs exactly.. every day. I guess this is what a slow loser is? It's not 241 anymore, but any number for a while is unusual to me!!!

Not upset about it, but curious. Clothes are fitting better, and I can't believe it's from a 1lb difference, so maybe I'm doing weird things too!

Kat- I've had that kind of stuff happen, and what I do is at my next appt. I explain to the DOCTOR the problems I've had with their receptionist and how they've talked to me, and politely say I'll be finding a new doctor due to the fact their staff treats me like crap. The doctor 100% of the time had no idea the patients were being treated that way. One time I did go find another doc, the other one he made a point to have the receptionist apologize to me and she didn't seem to work there much longer. I also am now so particular, I won't go to a doc (new doc) that has no one answering the phone. My gyno, if it wasn't so hard to get one around here (they all have speculations you have to meet.. re: having a kid in the next 12 months, or they aren't taking new patients, etc.) anyway, but they don't ever answer the phone. It goes straight to voicemails and you have to wait 24-48 hours for them to call back. I've waited weeks and still nothing, so I have to keep leaving messages. I really don't care for them there. The doctor is awesome, but her staff is SUCKY. I have to bring that up to her next time I have to go in.

How are you today Terry??

This is me at work today looking like and feeling like crap. In my dorky glasses and messy pony tail... I've got my door shut so no one can come near me...

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
