Well my granny, the way she is, would be hurt if someone else brought stuffing.

That's her thang.

I'm trying to plan a 30th birthday bash for my friend whose birthday is in December. It's sucking for her so far, I keep calling her friends who are in Kentucky (that's where she is from) and with holidays, no one can afford a trip like that.. :)

Hope she'd be happy with the group in town that could come.. She was lamenting about how she never had a real birthday party due to holidays, so I was trying to change that.. but sheesh it's hard!

Went to the mall for lunch, so I saw the Angel Tree & grabbed a couple. For 2 years now, when I hear them advertise it on the radio--I go down there-- and they're completely out of them!

So this time I saw it before I heard the ad, and there were TONS.. all over the tree, all over tables, and they had boxes filled with them :)

I asked the lady when they put them out, she said a week ago.. I told her how last year and the year before, they were always gone by time I got there.. and this 5 or 6 year old boy standing there with his mom said "When did you come?". Heh.. ??? I said I didn't know. He was pretty funny, kept pointing out that every kid wanted a bike to his mom.

I got a kid and an adult.. this whole concept was beyond Russell, he was very quizzical about it, and I still don't think he understood. I thought he realized every December I donate to something. I wanted to do Angel tree in the past, but they're always gone.. so I just donate money.. I guess he never noticed!

My doc called me in some phenegren. I called them because there was now way I could drive there. Must have gotten sick about 15 times. Every time I would even just sit up I would throw up. I have not done that since about 2:30 so that is good news. Still nauseated. I have not felt this bad in years. I can't go to the band dr right now. I do not think anything is wrong with it. I can drink now with no problems (so far).

I gotta go get in bed. I sure hope macy doesn't get this!

Tracy~ Take care of yourself! Sorry you are going through this. Is it both ends (food poisoning) or just a bug? You don't think it is related to band?

I've worked all day on diss. I AM 80% DONE W/ CH. 4 EDITS!!! OMG...it is double the original length. I am crippled from this shitty chair...but I am determined. Back to it..

Hey girls...

TracyK, so sorry to hear that you're so sick. Take care of yourself!!

TracyKS, so glad to hear that your boobies are ok!! yay!!

Judy, you'll have to take a pic for us so we can see your Winter Wonderland!

Laura, have you switched detergents lately? or using a new soap or lotion? stress? My hands always get so red & raw in the winter... ugh... hate it... yeah, the ring worm sounds gross.

Sounds like you're rockin' & rollin', Pam! Great job! Hope you're feeling better, too.

Hi Terri, Suzie, Jen, Kat, Janie, & Haydee!!

I went to the hospital today to see my neighbor, but she was asleep, so I saw her son & bro & left her a note... they say it's doubtful that she'll last the week... what sadness, especially @ this time of year... :)

I'll be housebound tomorrow as my car is in the shop for maintenance... the carpet cleaners are coming @ 8am... I'll probably be on here lots so see ya'll then!

Hi all~

TracyK---be careful, and if it gets to where you cannot keep Fluid down--go to the band Dr. I don't care if it is a $$$ issue---life is more important-I almost learned that the hard way!!!

TracyKS-glad the meds are seeming to take the edge off for Robby. I used to think too many kids were medicated, but after talking to a couple of adults who are ADHD, and watching Becky's oldest go through it----there are times it is totally called for! And it sounds as though Robby needed it!!! LOL kids gotta love 'em!

We have had such wierd weather--tshirts the end of November! It has only snowed here once, and we missed it, we were in TX. Such strange weather!! I am going to do like Judy and we are going to get our Christmas lights up this weekend. We won't burn them til after Thanksgiving, but it is so much nicer putting them up when your fingers are not numb from the cold & wet!

Pamela---ask Santa for a new chair!!! Hope you too are feeling better!

Laura we began doing the Angel tree when my DD was in Kindergarten. Many years I had to search for one I could afford and yet do right by....but we still did it! We still do, and she does as well. When Rick and I got together, we would all go, and each of us pick an angel. Now Manda and Jason go, and this year Kinsey gets to pick an angel! When Manda and Jason were in Hawaii, and could not come home, they did the angel tree there, and bought scooters for 5 different kids--it was when the scooters were the big deal and had just come out big again. She said she was so excited to take them in!!

Bought my brothers Christmas today, and some onesies for the baby...too cute! Also managed to sneak a baby panda "Fur Baby" past Kinsey and under my coat into the cart today!

She was playing a game at the shop today with this little boy, the game was called Pick Out Sticks. Was a round game table with these sticks poking out of it, and you use a pair of plier things to remove them, and I don't know if it is a certain way you pull them or if they are random, but it buzzes sometimes like the old Operation game. She was getting so tickled over it she was making everyone laugh! The boys Mom said she picked it up in Walgreens, might go look for that, she was loving it!

Laura, even if they put your FIL's stents in this week---it should not interfere with Thanksgiving. They make the incision usually in the groin, and thread a small cable through the artery to the place they want the stent, then the stent is on the end of the cable, and the end of the cable inflates like a small balloon--causing the plaque and thickened blood to be pushed away, and compacted into the artery wall, and it opens the stent, then when they deflate the balloon, the stent remains behind, holding the artery in a full open position. The only incision is in the groin, and it usually has a plug in it---that dissolves in a few weeks. My Dad is told not to do his full walk (5-6 miles a day) for a few days, and then is released to normal activity soon after stent placement.

As for the stuffing, we always have 2 kinds. My MIL does a cornbread stuffing and puts apples in it. My DH does not like it at all---he wants more traditional, so I do it. His sister sometimes brought another one all together with sausage in it!

I would call your Granny ahead of time and tell her that your MIL is bringing some of THEIR family favorites too, and that you appreciate them understanding that Russell too has traditions. Act like she is going to accept it without issue, and maybe she will!!!

My ex husbands family never had stuffing/dressing of any kind, they always had turkey and noodles. So my DD thinks we have to have them too.....so we do I always have a bowl of noodles for her---but everyone eats them too!!! Thank heaven for Grandma's brand noodles! His family mixed and cut noodles all morning to cook for the meal----they were good, but waaaaay too much work to do along with everything else!

Well off to check my stuffed jalapenos, they should be about ready to come out of the oven.

Catch y'all later. Is anyone else getting any email notifications yet? I'm still not.

Ugh, Tracy! The last time I was sick like that I literally thought I was going to die....it was a bug I caught from my daughter. I ended up with some suppositories because I couldn't keep any oral meds down! I called a neighbor to go to the pharmacy for me and, bless her heart, she did. She practically threw the meds in the front door 'cause she didn't want to get whatever I had! I hope you feel better in the morning!

Good evening, Violets..

Well, my day is finally over and I'm in my nammies relaxing. The gig at the Senior Citizen's home went very well. They were very appreciative. Choir was excellent.. I had 20 voices and we got through a lot of the Christmas music and I think it will be fine in time for the pageant on the 21st. Bob had the Christmas lights on for me when I got home and they looked beautiful. He turned them off as soon as I got a good look. We'll turn them on after Thanksgiving.

TracyK.... take care of yourself. I was worried all day about you!!!

PamELa... take care of yourself too!! You've been a good girl working on your diss. today. But you really need a new chair!

TracyinKS...things are going to keep looking better for you now.

We have about 3 inches of snow on the ground right now. My son called from Benton Harbor which is 6 hours away. They got a foot of snow today and are expecting another foot tomorrow. Sure hope it doesn't head this way!!!

My scanner has been crazy tonight Bob says. Lots and lots of accidents with the roads really bad and people not used to driving in winter conditions yet.

Laura... stuffing is my favorite part of Thanksgiving. I make mine like my mom did, with raisins and lots and lots of poultry seasoning. She and I would make a meal of stuffing, gravy and dark turkey meat. ( again I wonder how I got fat.....)

This Saturday Bob and I are delivering Thanksgiving baskets for the church. We do it every year. We also do the Angel Tree.

This is a special time of year, for sure.

Michelle.. so sorry to hear about your friend. Losing someone is hard enough with losing them right at the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas will never be the same for her family again.. My prayers are with them.

Haydee.. you take care of yourself. What is it with the Violets all of a sudden??? We need our purple power!!

Gonna go watch the end of the Pistons game and then head to bed. It's snowing too hard to go in the hot tub tonight.

Everyone have a great night.. sleep well!!

Michelle. I'm very sorry about your friend and her family. Yes, it's a very bad time of the year for them to have to go thru something like that.

Yeah I don't like raisins and it would ruin my stuffing!!!

I'm not sure what my granny's base is, it's really goopy but not liquidy, but doesn't resemble bread or anything.. his moms is made with bread, which he loves.. she still makes it for Christmas!

I actually like both of their stuffings.

Well I have been sewing away on the baby's Christmas stocking, and time got away from me, so I am off to bed! I made progress tho!

Suzanne, I rec'd the email, and I can totally relate. I too am a year ahead of most of our Violets, and find myself growing weary at times, of feeling different. But the more I pay attention to the friends I have who have always been normal or minimally overweight----they work their diet similarly to what I do. If they plan to go overboard, the alter meals before then after. I guess before the band, I was so self concious of my own eating issues, I totally blocked out how others handled their weight and eating. I know I am truly jealous of those who can still do as I did when I was younger, and eat anything and everything without a single pound being gained. Rick's secretary, is a little thing, maybe a size 5-7. She eats non stop! She ALWAYS has something on her desk snacking away. Her concern over it? She always asks me if she has dorito breath!!! I eat those doritos all the time, and I would gain weight!

I have observed over the time, that almost all bandsters at about 6 months out hit a first hard plateau. Then about 18 months in, it gets really hard again....and when you get past it, it seems to be easier for a few months....but those banded about the time I was, that I talk to, all mention the same emotional let down----I don't know if it is that people are not noticing the additional weight loss, or if we are not noticing the big differences....or what, but we are losing momentum!

One positive we have that many of them do not----is each other! I don't know how they handle the ups and downs with this without the support I have found in our Violets!!!

Hang in there.....we are all in this boat together, let some of the rest of us row for awhile!!! We will all take turns!!!

I am tired to a point of being goofy....so off to bed.

But on a more serious note......NO raisins in my stuffing especially!!! LOL----no fruit, I save it for the salads and desserts! Can you believe my DIL does not like fruit at all???

Rick is off through Tuesday----will be hit and miss for me!

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

      2. OhMyGawdItzKla

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
