Surgical scar leakage 8 weeks out & inability to eat anything until after 1pm daily.

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I had my proceedure 8 weeks ago this Wednesday, I was recovering very nicely with no problems or infections and I was cleared to do anything I wanted to physically but 1 day after Christmas my largest scar starting leaking something. I don't have fever but it's getting worse (leaking more) not better and I'm scheduled to see my doctor tomorrow. Until then I was able to walk the 10k steps daily and ride my stationary bike for 45 minutes x 5 with no porblems whatsoever. Has anybody else experienced this?

I have been following all the lapband recovery protocols (food types and consistancies & exercise to the letter. I have lost 56 pounds since November 14th but I actually cannot eat anything at all until after noon daily without the left shoulder pain nerve going off the scale. By anything I mean nothing at all. No Water or anything. I only try to eat something twice a day. At this point I really don't care if I lose another oz. I was able to actually drink/swallow more 10 days after the surgery than now. I don't like this at all.

Best regards,

niteal

You may want to repost this in the general lapband forum... You will have better response there!

As far as the leakage, I stopped leaking at about 3 weeks. I would defineatly bring it up to your doc.

Try to drink a hot liquid in the morning to reduce swelling in the morning... it might help.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
