Hi Dixalee,

I was just banded on 8-17-10 so I cannot give advise but do you think you got off track on eating and portions? Need a fill? What do you think it might be? did you stop exercising or anything different?

I have the large band and now have 10cc. I can eat th same food and sometimes I feel full and other times I am starving. i have not been exercising for about 3 weeks now because of work. maybe that is it.I was only on liquids for 1 week and then soft food 1 week then by the end of the month I was told to eat solids. I will start a log on food and exercise. Do you think I can get a fill and start the process from the beginning? Thanks

The size of your band really doesn't matter - You got banded in March - You may need a fill - IMHO you need to know the # of calories you are eating a day - You need to always eat Protein 1st - then veggies and then starches - I eat limited starches - kept my calories between 800-1200 during my weight loss phase and exercised 4-5 times a week (mostly 5).

Losing weight is all about calories in vs calories burned even with the band - our bands don't make our food choices for us and exercise is key.

Even with the band - I get hungry - I still have head hunger issues and I'm 3 yrs out..

My doc requires that you go back to post op diet after a fill - one week each phase..

Hi Dixielee,

I'm in the same boat with you. I lost to 232 after the lapband and using the bodybugg. In May I misplaced my bodybugg and started a new job that required lots of extra hours.

So this week I found the bodybugg and started again. It really helps me be aware of how much I'm moving, ie burning calories, and because you need to log your food for the other half of the equation, it keeps me logging my food.

Good Journey

Hi Maggie, What's a bodybugg? I'm out of the loop with dieting. I just got my letter from my heart specialist and I will be ready to put my paperwork in. I am getting so excited! Please let me know. Thank you! Wendy :)

Hi! I am new to LapBandTalk after just receiving approval for surgery last week. I would like to see if there are others in the 50 something range that are going through this. After making my decision to have Lap-Band® surgery I was first denied by my Insurance Company (United Helath Care) in 2009. The Weight Loss Clinic helped to appeal the denial of service but it was denied again. Luckily, my company changed insurance carriers in 2010 to Anthem Blue Cross. At the beginning of the year I did not think about re-applying for the surgery, since I was denied by United, but then someone told me that they had it approved and I started my research again to see if Anthem would provide the surgery and approve it. I did a lot of research on the Anthem web site and found the Medical Policy for Surgical Weight Loss. After contacting my Weight Loss Surgeon again (almost a year later) they were happy to resubmit my paperwork to Anthem without doing any additional Doctor visits or other tests or appointments! This time I did not leave in the hands of the Insurance Company and Doctors office to provide the follow-up, I called on a regular basis to the Insurance Medical Management department and the Doctor's office. After going away on vacation for two weeks, and contacting the Insurance Company when I returned, I was finally approved for out patient surgery for my LAP-BAND®! YEAH! To date, I still do not have a surgery date, but I should know next week and will post again. I look forward to reading about all of the other members of this site and their success stories and then actually having my success posted here too! Good luck to everyone and I will be back for further postings!

Can anyone tell me if someone can get hypothyroidism after the band? I have lost 75 but then started gaining again. Several symptoms I have point at hypothyroidism. I have a doctor appointment Friday but just wanted to see what you all know. Thanks!

I have had hypothyroidism for years. I don't think your band would cause it. Hypothyroidism is not uncommon with people in our age bracket. Be sure and get it checked out.

Congrats on finally getting your approval and

WELCOME to LBT!

Hope you get your surgery date soon. I remember how excited I was when I got mine!

Wendy, Bodybugg is a thing you wear on your arm that keep track of calories burned, to my understanding. They use them on Biggest Loser, I think.

Haven't heard of that, but I suppose it's possible, tho more likely age related, as Charlene says.

AARRGHHHH! No more age talk. I want to know a medical reason, I don't want to think I am, well, you know, aged! LOL Thanks for the thoughts anyway.

My insurance woud not pay for my surgery but I felt it was important enough to pay for it myself, My husband and I worked out the numbers on the amount of money I would save after I got off the meds I was taking. That will pay for the surgery in 9 years. Now I feel like I will live more than that,.

I agree about the age talk. I feel younger now that I have gotten the surgery. People don't believe I am my real age. I hope they are not lying to me.

Look 10 yrs younger and feel 20 yrs younger ;0)..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
