Elayne 0 Posted October 14, 2008 I've read elsewhere on this site that the recovery for hiatal hernia repair with LBS is a bit more painful. Does anyone have any experience with this "Duo"? and I'm in misery with a GIgundous hemorrhoid. Although I've given birth to 3 large babies (the last one 22+ years ago) - I'm quite certain that this behemoth was caused by straining and chronic Constipation (diabetes? obesity?) After self-imposed no-sitting and no-lifting and a generous dose of Miralax - I think it's getting better. Will LBS alleviate or worsen this condition? Well, I have had a few colon surgeries....so you can imagine the problems I have had. Anyway, I take Miralax everyday......recommended by my colon surgeon. When you take in 60g of Protein a day....you need help. Miralax is safe to take everyday. Yes, it is 30 bucks for a month supply, but beats the alternative which is diverticulitis. Also, don't forget fiber! Actually, not eating as much food has helped me alot.
Beader 1 Posted October 14, 2008 (edited) Hi, I'm back with another pain and I was wondering if anyone else has had this. (where have I heard that before) I just had the band and hyadal hernia surgery Tuesday and everything has been going well except for some discomfort. Yesterday I woke up with an excruciating lower backache. I still have it today and I can't even stand up straight. I never had a backache like this before and I don't know if it's surgery related or a cold settled there. Can anyone help? On a lighter note, I just found this site that someone suggested that is wonderful and thought I'd share it. It's theworldaccordingtoeggface Great recipes. Thanks for any comments. Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted October 14, 2008 Do you think you could have a kidney infection? That is a terrible pain in the lower back. I hope that is not the case!
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted October 14, 2008 Are the liquid Probiotics = Yakult, in the dairy section of the supermarkets any good? I've been having to walk to the shops for the past two weeks as my car is still in the smash repairers, and I'm quite enjoying it now, except when I get carried away and have to lug lots of shopping home. This morning I had a wonderful surprise, the scales said 85.5kg (down from 112kg) so I've lost another 1.5kg. I thought the ruddy scales were never going to move again. Yabbadabbadoo!!!!! I am not sure because we don't have any liquid probiotics in our grocery stores here. They are only in the health food stores. There are some pills in the drug stores for acidophilus, but I don't think they are as good as the powder I get from the health food store. Sorry I am not more help. sunshine531 0 Posted October 14, 2008 Kerry 50, The 30 lbs must be a Dr thing. I am tricare also and when I decided I wanted the LB, I went to see the surgeon (after my own Dr agreed), the next week I saw the nutritionist, and two weeks later I had my surgery. The surgeon waived the Psyco exam. and I had taken with me to my first appt the information of all the diff diets I had tried over the years. I also have diabetes, high BP. So maybe you wont have to wait as long as you think. My surgery was may 21, 2008 and I have lost 45 lbs. Good luck to you.
Charlene K 1 Posted October 14, 2008 I have been approved by my surgeon several weeks ago. My BMI was 40.1 and I am 5'4". I would like to loose around 100lbs. My question is what is the Psych. evaluation all about? What do they ask you? My appt. is for 2 hours, FOR WHAT!!! I am doing this band for myself and my HEALTH, what more do they want??? After this appt. I am ready for my appt. with the surgeon to set the date. He told us that it would probably be after the first of the year before he can do it. Wow! 2HRS? My psych evaluation was about five minutes. They just want to know why I wanted to lose and have the surgery. They do this basically to satify the insurance and make sure you don't have serious mental issues. Don't worry. I think it is good to go through a process. It gave me time to make sure I wanted the surgery. Of course, It took me 6mos. to be approved which was a little long.
rochelle721 0 Posted October 14, 2008 Hi gang! My surgery was a month ago. I'm down 33 lbs (20 before & 13 after surgery). I'm thrilled to have the liquid diet behind me and now eating "real" food. I go for my first fill Friday. I'm anxious to get it done. Right now I only stay full about 2-1/2 to 3 hours after eating. I hope to expand that with the fill. I'm walking 1-2 miles a day and excited to see the new me evolve.
Elayne 0 Posted October 14, 2008 Since I've been going to a psychiatrist and therapist for decades for my bi-polar disorder - my evaluation was just a regular appointment. He OK'd the procedure and sent my surgeon a short note with his approval. For "non-regulars" I've heard varying reports. Many are given that endless True/False questionnaire that is designed to determine critical issues about personality and cognitive processes. Basically - he/she must determine if you are capable and willing to make this decision for a life-changing event and disciplined enough to follow through with necessary skills that follow. Gosh, Elayne, you said that so well. I have Medicare coverage and Medicare requires the MMP (I think that's what it's called) testing, which is T-F test that takes about an hour to complete. It's the test you mention in your note. Coupled with a psych visit it took about 2 hours for the entire visit. This is definitely a life-changing event and I appreciate that the surgeon wants to know I am committed to this process and have a good chance for success. Mornin' girls...the same test and a psych visit was also required by my surgeon. But, at my last support group meeting the coordinator mentioned that the surgeon changed the psychologist he had been using in our area. Seems that she was just giving everyone the "good to go". There were too many having issues and doc feels that they were just not ready or not meant to be in the program. A GOOD psych evaluation does harm to no one! I would have jumped through way more hoops to have the opportunity to have the band. (Even though there were many to jump through). I guess my point is; whatever it takes.....we all need to make sure we are ready for what is coming after the band. If not prepared...there will be problems. I also had a rather large hiatel hernia repaired at the time of LB surgery. Since then I feel great, no more reflux, but after talking with others I know and feel my recovery was a bit sloweer due to the repair, but now feel GREAT!!!! Think I found my sweet spot. Last fill was 9/19 and have had wonderful restriction since, usually 1/4-1/2 cupo per meal.. looks like I am on a weight loss roll once again.
