Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

Hey there -

I feel the excitement returning.

I'm entering the last few weeks of intensive testing, evaluations, poking, prodding and instructions.

I was told at my consult that I'd most likely have to have the 6 mo. supervised diet to appease the insurance company.

(my BMI is 37 ish, but I have Diabetes type 2, hi-blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritic knees, sleep apnea, etc.) :bored:

The dietitian just called me to set up my first appointment and she indicated that we may get around that because of all the other diets and programs that I've tried and failed at WITHOUT documentation.

Like yoga, slim-fast, poor attendance at Curves, bits and pieces of Weight Watchers, unsupervised diets assigned by my endocrinologist, and on and on.

My testing will be complete by Oct. 9 and then comes the wait.

:smile2:

Wish me luck!

Good luck Elayne! Keep trudging forward. BC/BS accepted my WW cards, which weren't even for the previous 6 months. I had to follow a 1000 calorie diet for two weeks before surgery and lost 9 pounds in that time frame. So far, it's all been worth it!

This is interesting as it gives you more control over your fills. I've never had floroscope.

I like it very much. I also hear about people being stuck several times when getting a fill and stories about missing the port and injecting the saline into "nowhere". The fluroscope helps with that as well. Just don't know if it's something one can "insist" on. I'm banded by a hospital group, so it's part of the set-up.

got a call this morning from the drs. office. my rep. said that the doctor said i was ok for surgery and that i will be getting a phone call in the next few days to schedule my appt. with the doctor. i am getting so nervous and excited at the same time. hope it won't be long. :smile2:

they told me that when i get my appt. to be prepared to be there all day.

i think i see the dietician and have a bunch of test done all in one day.

i'm glad tough, i'd rather do it all at once and get it over with.

seems this last fill is very helpful. I lost just under 3.5 # this past week. :tongue2: I have notices my quantity has greatly decreased.. sometimes after just a few bites I feel the beginning of tightness, so my brain is telling me to stop eating.

I have started physical therapy for my knee and knoe that "may" increase muscle and weight loss may slow. Just hope the therapy eliminates the need for knee surgery.. :wink2:

I was like you and I had to go in to get some fill out. I have been ok for about a month but I can eat anything I want now, I am going back in on Monday for a fill, The doc said my band is at 2.6, it was at 3 it only holds up to 4cc. So I have to try maybe 2.7 because at 3 I could not even drink Water until late afternoon, I did loose but I will tell you that you can hurt yourseld, slippage, erosion, and so on. Find a place you can live with, I too want to loose more and not play around but I too want to be able to live healthy. Good luck will let you know more later.

Hi Elayne,

I'm in Western Australia and I'm totally amazed at all the tests everyone has to have over there to be banded. All I had to have done was a full blood count 3 days before surgery. No psych tests or anything else. I do know a few people that had to lose a certain amount of weight themselves before their surgeon would operate but not all the proceedures you have to go through over there. I guess we are lucky in that regard.

Best wishes,

Katydid.

Congrats Harplayer! How exciting for you. I'm glad my preop process is over, but it has all been worth it. Just so you know, PBing is productive burping, aka throwing up a little bit. It's happened to many of us when we over-eat, don't chew well enough, etc. I found a spot on this website that explains a lot of the acronyms, maybe somebody knows exactly where it is... hopefully someone will respond to that. Good luck to you!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
