Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

Thanks Lizalee. At least you had the good sense to stop at one cookie. You have about the same amount to lose as I do, and you are more than half-way there! I know I will get there, too. I just have to get back with it....a Protein shake for dinner for me! Next post will be more positive, I promise!

Hey, Don't beat yourself up too much....I just ate a chocolate cookie my daughter made, because they looked SO good. It happens, and we move on. Less for supper today for me!!! :-)

And I was feeling bad for eating too many navy Beans my DH cooked. They were awesome. I didn't even have to puree them because it was more like navy bean Soup. It doesn't hurt to have something special once in awhile. Your right, just move on! Walk an extra block. :cursing::lol::scared2:

PangeaOne,

I'm 64 and had surgery on July 3. I'm doing just fine, so I don't think age has so much to do with it as your general health. I had this done to get off my diabetic meds, and I've really seen a difference in my numbers since making this decision. I may have been successful on my own, if I had stuck to the kind of diet I am now eating, but without the band, I felt too weak and shakey. I don't know what the band has to do with it, but I eat three small meals and seem to be satisfied (except when head hunger tells me I want something sweet, which I ignore). I haven't even had a fill yet. My doctor puts the band on with nothing in it for at least 6 weeks so my body can adjust to it. So far, it seems to be enough. Lucky me! Hope you find better health with the band.

Kathy JB, Congrats on your band. How long were you sore from the surgery? Have you lost any weight yet? I am hopeing to have mine in the next month or so. I am getting so tired of overeating but it seems I can't stop. Hope to join you all soon. Maggie:wink2:

Just my luck! I am on day 10 of my all fluids diet looking forward to my banding on August 6th. Then I get a phone call from the hospital today saying my doctor wants a copy of my last colonoscopy and hemoccult. So I call my gastroendenologist, and his office is closed until August 7th, a day too late. Then I called the hospital where the colonoscopy was done, and had a copy faxed. I picked up a hemocult from my primary physician which calls for a stool sample for three days. As I said, I have been on fluids for ten days. I hope this is do-able!

When I bend over I feel pain like somethings pinching me inside - it's by my large incision. It really hurts. Sometimes I don't feel it at all. Anyone else have this type of problem? Next post op is Aug 11th. Received band on July 10th - 3 weeks ago and I'm already on regular foods and I can eat a lot sometimes and other times I can't. Is this normal? Thanks

I had my first yoga class yesterday (after 3 decades)

I thought no-impact would be good for my 2 arthritic knees.

Nope -

Lotsa kneeling and bending and now my knees are quite sore (not muscle sore - inner-stuff sore)

Very discouraging

(followed by drive-thru-chocolate-milkshake-large-'my bad)

Doubts and thoughts about my body-image / 0 self-esteem - blah - blah - blah

My BMI is "only" 36-37 and even with diabetes II - will I still be dis-qualified? :tt2:

If my husband is thrilled, supportive and talkative finally (after more than a decade) - where was he all along when his involvement would have meant the world to me.

(too much - too late?)

Crapola thoughts are edging out my excitement and 99.9% pro-active desire to get my life back. :confused2:

then -

just before 5:00 pm on Friday afternoon I get the call (that didn't come when promised on Wednesday)

:cool2:

Yay -

I got my Consult date for September 4 -

I'm returning to 99.8% surety,

Does anyone else get flooded by doubts and self-defeating attitudes>

Is this something I have to battle along the way?

How do you fend off this negativity?

:wink2:

Hi Nancy:

That isn't a big slip up, it's a speed bump or a learning experience. You learned quicker than I did. I've been struggling with favorite slider foods for 3-4 months now and it wasn't until I started reading this board again that I'm getting back on track. AND, I also started going to the doctor again every month. I haven't needed a fill since February. Still have the restriction. After the last fill, I started spacing out my appointments and eating more slider foods.

I've come to the conclusion, that I can't have the slider foods in the house, I need the doctor to help me get through the "learning" period of my band and diet adaptations that I need to do the rest of my life. Since it took me most of my 50+ years to learn my current eating habits, it's gonna take more than a few months to learn and develop the habits I need to accomplish my new journey.

So glad you posted, I am relieved to hear from others who have gotten through "speedbumps".

Sue Stenzel

Happy Saturday everyone!

It's a beautiful day in Pa. today. Sitting on my porch enjoying the sun. I had verification from my insurance co. that my weight watchers time last year will count as my supervised wt. loss diet. I have made an appt to see my PCP for a referral. I'm going to go to an general informational session this wed. with the COE that my daughter and i have chosen. We will both go to the Lap Band informational session the following wed. So i think we are on our way. While it would nice to both be banded at the same time, we have decided it's not really practical. As we will have only each other to rely on after surgery. So i'm hoping that i'll be able to get banded first. It seems she needs to do the 6 month medically supervised diet.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day. I'm off to my parents to finalize plans for our annual family vacation to the outer banks next month.

Pat

When I lay on my left side I am sore the next morning. Sometimes when I have pain I gently massage the area or apply a little pressure and it helps. Everyone is different though.

First thing is you have to be sure you are doing this for you, with your without your husbands support. And not be the victim, not saying you are, I know I was. I couldn't do this because _____ wasn't supportive, or I couldn't do this because of ______, etc. I have/had incredibly low self esteem, losing weight alone isn't going to change that. You will be the same person, just thinner. So I am beginning to work on me and not identifying myself solely by my weight. There's self image and body image and they are different. I think overweight women especially tend to make them all one. I can hate my body but like the person that I am, if that makes sense.

You were brave to try yoga with arthritic knees. My knees are bad and there are yoga poses on my Wii Fit, no way can I do most of them.

Good luck with your consult and your decision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
