I've been banded 11 months and have NEVER vomited, thrown up, one PB, mild episode, two sliming episodes. Just have to be very careful. Don't eat things you know you shouldn't. Small bites and chew, chew, chew. Both times my problem food was chicken! I have felt "stuck" a few times... often with tuna fish... go figure??!

Hey, does anyone know how I get rid of the "edit post" button on my post? :tt2: It showed up a couple of posts ago and I don't know what I did. I am technically challenged. Also I am weight loss challenged or I wouldn't be here.

I think it's there just so you have a opportunity to go back and edit your post if you want to.

Just ignore it! It's only on your own posts.

never vomitted, just some PB and sliming. Especially the past week and I really don't know why.

Chicken is the biggest culprit, but also several types of fish..today I tried a chicken ceasar salad for lunch and had issues with that

Will have to discuss with my Dr. on 7/10. probably won't get my fill then. Still on fill #1, 4cc in my 14cc band, and that was on 5/9 :confused2:

But weight loss is steady so very happy with that.

Now I found out I probably have brusitis in my left shoulder, severe pain, and not being able to take Nsaids i am being given a round of prednisone to hopefully clear up the issue. Also have to take it easy with the Water aerobics and swimming for a bit :(

Yeah, chicken and tuna are my two things. And most of the time I can eat either with no problem, but the one time I've PBed and two times I've slimed (not bad for 11 months out) it's been chicken. Yesterday I fixed a grilled chicken Caesar salad. No problem. A couple of weeks ago I ate one small, overcooked, BBQed chicken drumstick and it almost came back up. Go figure??

Sorry about your shoulder. I've been having issues with my knee this weekend. Both knees are bad. I use a handicap scooter, but not around the house. For exercise... my Wii and Wii Fit... just careful about not over straining the knees. I love the balance exercises and may have overdone it this weekend. Used my DD's Wii a couple of times because they're in Mexico and we're sort of housesitting part-time. So I was determined to beat GS, DD & GD scores on some of those things... skiing, soccer, etc. So probably skiied one too many times and now I"m paying!

Prednisone should help you. Water aerobics should be okay if you're careful.

Hi all..........

I'm 57 - I'm hoping that my age isn't going to make this surgery any harder to deal with. I've always been able to handle pain but it's still scary. The whole thing is scary and I REALLY think IT IS because of my age that I feel this way. Anyone have some comforting stories to share with me - especially the ones that are my age? Yes, I realize that everyone handles situations differently. I guess I just have to keep thinking positive. I'll be back to consult and let you know how it all goes. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in this!! :confused2::(

MsPriss (which I have been called before...)

I am 4 months from 57 and was banded mid-May. I have lost 39 lbs, off of BP meds, last BP reading (on Sat) was 101/62. I can do energetic exercise. I ran on the treadmill today for some of the 40 minutes I did. Don't think I have run since ... a long time. I am down 3 sizes and feeling great. Don't let age stop you from...anything!! Go for it, girl!

Well, Girl, I am 57 and being banded on July 16th. I am excited and scared. All I can tell you is just go with it and do whatever the nurses and doctors say. I haven't had this surgery, but since 2000 I have had three major abdominal surgeries....two of which were colon resections. You are alot stronger than you realize. Yes, recovery may take a little longer, but just take one day at a time. It's gonna be "all good". We will be sing praises in no time with our fellow bandsters.

Hi,

Just banded on 6/26/08, am pretty sore and tired, too. When have you (realistically) found yourself able to go back to work? I am starting a new job on 7/7.

Thanks, these posts are so helpful to read,

Well hello everyone, Today was the first day of mushies. I don't know what to think. Today I had an Unjury drink with skim milk, lunch is 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. Wasn't hungry for the rest of the day. I drank two bottles of Water, then later I had an orange drink with some Protein in it. Tonight I had a 1/2 cup Tomato Soup and about 3 tbsp applesauce. I had my surgery on June 18th. My weight loss has slowed down a little. and I am attributing that to putting food back into my system since the preop stage.:confused: My question is, am I doing okay with food. Not too much to eat. I don't seem to be eating a whole lot but I am only in the second week since surgery. Also, I can not get in all fluids, food and protein as of yet. I guess this is a progressive stage. Well I just wanted someone to tell me that I am doing okay food wise. If I drink a Protein Drink, then I can't eat much food so thats what I am getting at.

Average rule of thumb is about 60 Gm protein a day. If you're not getting tht, there's some flavorless, sugar free whey Protein Powder you can buy to add to things like your applesauce, Tomato Soup, etc. to ramp up your protein intake a little if you find it's low. The kind I got did not effect the taste of what I was eating/drinking at all.

Sliming= hmmm.... kind of indescribable, actually. Your band decides you've eaten too fast, too much, etc. and starts producing an extra amount of saliva type stuff... only thicker, and it just sort of comes up. Only happened to me twice. The first time it came by surprise and it so totally freaked out my DH that i started laughing! He was not amused. Second time I made it to the BR okay!

Oh brother, I have been doing fine...but slowly, I am eating too much!!

A big wedding in NY, last weekend, another wedding locally here and I found myself eating 2-3 cups of food!!! In that same time, I ate too fast and nearly threw up (but didn't). I got really watery  (Sliming) twice...I am scheduled for my first fill on July 14th.

Otherwise, doing well, exercising (swimming laps 4x a week) but eating too much. HELP!! I have used the "daily.plate" so well, and today didn't even use that. OLD HABITS scare me!! Please add me to your prayer list. Thanks fellow Bandsters!!! Thanks, Christy

I am set for 2nd fill on 7/10. but still have issues with food. lots getting "stuck". Probably eating too fast and not chewing enough. I have been eating more, 2cups per meal...have had to increase my Protein to 80-90gms per day..Dr. orders.

healing at age 54 was ok. the rather large hernoia repair i had along with the LB surgery, did cause me to have a little longer recovery than others. but all wemt well. I was okay bye DR to return to work after 2 weeks, but stayed home another week by choice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
