Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I agree that there's some kind of competitive dynamic that goes on among different camps. It's kind of crazy. We know from research that the best intervention outcomes are when multiple approaches are used simultaneously. Combining approaches such as a good diet program, banding, therapy, exercise etc etc only increases the likelihood of a good outcome. I recently had someone tell me that her WW instructor said she knew someone who lost a lot of weight on the band gained nearly half of it back and the instructor was offering that as proof that the band doesn't work. I told her to ask the instructor how many people she knows who gained ALL of their weight back after losing it on WW? We know a LOT of people that has happened to. It doesn't mean that WW isn't any good. It means that additional work/interventions are needed for those people.

Hi tonight, Hey I saw some of your gals are AT@T people. I worked 15 years there got married again, had a daughter and then twins in three years and went out on an early retirement as a byout back in 85. My dh is still employed there and currently has 28 years in. Anyway today is day five after surgery. Doing great. Starting to get hungry. Sure can't eat too fast though. that is a hard habit to break. Am getting more Protein in now. Was down another 1.8 this morning but back up .8oz tonight. Oh well.

thats about it for tonight. talk to ya all later.

What is the WW core plan? I have never been able to figure out those points. It's just easier for me to count calories.

Congratulations to all you new bandsters! Bandland is the best! I have a very slow metabolism too. I never lost quickly and was always afraid I would be one person the band wouldn't work for. Now that I am at goal and at my sweet spot, life couldn't be better. Tonight I went for a walk after work, then over to visit my new grandson. I got home at 9pm and realized I forgot to eat dinner. I just wasn't hungry. It's so great!

Oh, I can't wait for my "sweet spot" -- so I can forget to eat dinner!! :-)

Actually, I must confess, I have forgotten to eat Breakfast for a short time...maybe once! But I always remember soon enough to make it up. LOL.

I have not just not eaten a meal in the 3 months I have been banded. This weekend I had one day of wanting to eat everything in sight. It was hard to keep my intake under control.

WW, is always changing their plans. Over the years I have used at least 4 different plans, points, calories, exchanges or any combination. I would lose weight with the program, but BANG, back it all came after awhile. I know the band will be there to keep me in check and remind me that the weight will not return..

Last day of vacation for me and I think I am running around all day. I am getting in my Water aerobics first thing this morning..get my body invigorated and ready to go for the day!

Hi all--

I am obese! (never thought I'd be happy to write that but I am officially out of Morbid Obese and as of this AM, Severly Obese!) Can't wait until I am overweight!!! LOL

I got my first fill yesterday and am on Clear Liquids for 2 days. I am anxious to "test" it with real food. I got 3.1 cc in a 10cc band. I know--chewchewchew and tiny bites!

Last weekend, I hosted a progressive dinner and since I didn't feel any restriction, I had 1/2 of a roll and a little bit of Pasta. WRONG! It didn't give me pain or discomfort, but I was certainly aware of it for 2 days.

I guess that there are things we have to experience for ourselves so we know for the future.

BTW, I taught for WW about 15 years ago. I had lost my weight with Quick Weight Loss Centers, but I didn't tell WW that! I had 80 people to come to my class and the weighing in, teaching the lesson, teaching the new folks the plan---it took 3 hours! And all for $14 a class for me! Only worked 1 1/2 years.

AthinnerDenise---I always slow down to read your posts when I come across them. You are my heroine!

and, lynnt1215 ---I always watch for you too. We are same day sisters. You are doing so great. Both of you woman really influence me and get me to try new things.

jbflorida ---interesting story about WW.

I do really think that a number of diets are good. Different ones are more compatible for different people and most of them work. I think the competitiveness between differnt diets is silly. The problem is not the diet. It isn't as simple as just picking a diet. We gotta stay on the diet, we gotta move and we gotta change behavior so we can maintain the weight loss. The band really helps us stick to the program. Last week I decided to treat myself to a sundae made with sugar free hot fudge/whipped cream. That occasional treat would have been fine except I ended up in the kitchen for a second round. As soon as I took the 2nd spoonful of that second sundae I got a dull ache in my stomach. I was OK but I just had a feeling that if I pushed it -- I was going to hurl. I didn't even WANT the ice cream anymore. The whole thing thrown out. Now--I just want to say---I have NEVER turned my nose up at a dish of ice cream in my entire life!! Then -- the half gallon sat in my freezer until my spouse (who isn't over weight) polished it off. Well----it's a minor miracle that the ice cream sat in my freezer that long. Normally -- I would have “skarfed” that down in a day or 2. I had my 1 sundae---enjoyed it ---and I'm not looking for another one. I'm eating healthy and exercising. That is what the band does for me!

Weight Watchers has 2 plans, the flex plan in which you can have anything and count the points. And then there's Core. There's no point counting, you have to be very aware of your hunger/comfort level and you eat foods from a preprescribed list of foods. Those foods tend to be the more whole foods/natural foods and low glycemic type foods, nothing white, breads, Pasta and rice must be whole grain and limited. You still get 35 points a week to spend on 'splurges' or non core foods. You eat when hungry and stop when comfortable. It doesn't seem to be real popular with folks in any WW meeting I've attended, normally only one or two people in the room follow it but I think it's much more healthy.

Hi Denise

I think core is like the old exchange plan - that's how I learned WW exchanges and I still use that so much dairy so much starch Protein etc.

I never forget to eat - Dinner has always been my main meal - I would say I am at my sweet spot - but I still get hungry..

Long2bethin;

You rock! I have attended lots of WW meetings and no one ever got a 5lb, 10 lb, etc etc awards in one meeting. That is great!

I feel like I am going to confession when I go weigh in every week and the meeting is like Sunday mass. I guess the experience makes me face my transgressions from the previous week. I always do better the 2 days before and the day after I weigh in. Which leaves only 4 days to manage my eating and I can do that!

So I'm gonna keep on until I hit goal (which has never happened before!) and I'm gonna get that lifetime membership no matter what! I think you get a little gold star (?) for your keychain at Lifetime and by God, I'm gonna get it.

Love and Success to everyone's journey!

Sadie

Congrats on reaching that new place.... only "Obese"!! That's great!

I was a WW person, too, many years ago! I think it was 1971 that I reached my goal.... 118 lb. I got a pin with six little "diamonds" in it for my 68 lb weight loss, and supposedly, a lifetime membership. But they don't give you any piece of paper or anything that says that, so I don't know how you'd ever prove that you earned that distinction. They probably wouldn't even know what that pin was now!! I still have it. I worked for them after that, too, for maybe a year or two, as a weigher. I quit when I got tired of all the little criticisms! The last straw was when I was told I didn't "smile enough" one particular night! I really enjoyed it and had a good rapport with all the ladies in the groups I worked for, so I was hurt and annoyed and said "good riddance" to the bureaucracy since it had become clear to me that it was all about the money and appearances and not about the people!

Lynn the reason we gain the weight back isn't any programs failure but our failure to continue to follow the program - we go back to eating normal (which is what got us fat in the 1st place) That's why I say diets don''t work (well really WW says that:lol:) - In WW I learn that this was a lifetime lifestyle change in my eating - oh ya right what's that - so slowly but surely I quit logging my food - skip a day of exercise - have a piece of cake or and extra serving of something for dinner and slowly but surely all the pounds came back on plus some - it's wasn't that WW failed me or didn't work - it was that I quit doing the work - I didn't make it a lifetime lifestyle change - I totally get it now 20 something yrs later - major surgery and a foregin object in my body :( Call me a slow learner:wink2:

The band is no diff that the above example - even banded you can gain all your weight back and some if you quit doing the work

The band is the tool that helps me follow a lifetime lifestyle change in my eating habits. Please don't think that just cuz you are banded the weight can't come back on - cuz it can and will if you go back to your old habit and quit exercising

Well Jb have th stuff I pop off at the mouth with is what I learned in WW

"Better in thee (the trash than in me"" - The whole Lifetime Lifestyle change and not a diet - So you are pretty well prepared with the knowledge you need to work your band to make you a healthier person...

You need to be giving us little pointers You can lead the over 50 WW class - Phyl can be the weighter - :(:unsure: for our weekly weigh in

:( Beleive me, you are on your way... we all do Trial and Error.... even though we've been told to lay off the bread and pasta..

Last night I found that I now have to lay off of SPICY foods... my band swoll up so tight that I awoke in the middle of the night choking on my own spit...

Gotta listen to the band... and play by the rules.

One fill down and one more closer to your permanent weight loss

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
