Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

You need a fill. This is perfectly normal. You are in what we call bandster hell.

Hardly anyone loses at all or very well until they have actually had more than one fill. Try not to get frustrated over it. It's very normal. When you go for your first fill, ask your doctor if he can be aggressive with a fill.

Thanks Denise for the info. I never lose fast anyways but thought at least I would lose ONE pound in 3 weeks. LOL

phyllser- wow- you are a role model. I love seeing us broads over 50 losing lots of weight. It defies all rules about it being so terribly hard to lose once we enter the 5-0 zone. Congratulations and keep up the good work.

I'm still fairly new, banded April 30, and I'm working on how much food to eat when while leaving time for Water. Most of the time I feel like a juggler. And I seem to get a lot of gas. Painful gas. So, working on that too. I'm trying to spread my food across the day rather than 3 meals. Trying to not let the belly empty all together.

But happily building a fridge of new foods and lots of leftovers.

See yu!

You betcha!! Us OLD BROADS ROCK!!

For quite a while I was eating 1/2 cup servings 6X a day. It is hard to get the liquids in, especially when you can't drink for an hour after you eat! But, just keep working at it. Some days I do better than others.

Know what you mean about the leftovers!! Was back east visiting family last fall & we were going out to eat so often that pretty soon there was a dozen take out boxes in my sister's refrigerator, most with my name on them!! Now I try to talk my DH in to sharing a meal with me.

My BIL has lost about 120 since banding and his fridge is an aluminum mine.

We haven't been out for dinner yet, but I think he'll order and I'll take a bit off his plate. Restaurant portions are too big anyway!

I agree about restaurant portions being too large. I wonder if it's an "American" thing. Before being banded I had no complaints, but now one portion lasts me four days. Not that I'm complaining, I'm saving money on food bills.

Question: I live on the NJ shore and love to go to the boardwalk this time of year. One of the things I enjoyed in the past was eating raw oysters/clams. Has anyone tried them since being banded? I'm kind of afraid of an oyster sticking, lol.......

I am only going to the doctor every 3 months now. I went on June 6 and got what the nurse called a little tweek (she added .1 to my 4cc band currently at 3.7cc). I only started to feel the full effect of it Wednesday. I am probably a little too tight but it usually loosens up or I get use to it. My band makes a lot of noise about an hour after I eat (while the food goest through). It takes about 4 hours before I feel hungry again. I can't eat anything in the morning because of the tightness.

Your band/stomach makes a lot of noise after you eat? Is this common?

Boy do I know about the arms! I've lost so much in my upper body & cannot get my upper arms in the sleeves of blouses I could otherwise wear. Just trying to be patient while everything is changing. I feel so much better in every way......the arms have to come sooner or later. Part of the journey.

I am also a fan of raw oysters. I tried one awhile back and ended up chewing it, and chewing raw oysters is different. Not sure the old slurp and swallow will work on us bandsters!!!!

That's what I was thinking. I've never really chewed an oyster or clam. It's sort of a "slurp" and down. Even mussels, which you do chew a little. Kind of rubbery.

I don't know about clams, but my BIL, who was banded, told me the only food he absolutely can't eat is calamari. Rubber.

gee, I have had calamari, but not raw. I went to dinner at Carraba's and it was fried calamri, in a light batter, it was just like butter going down.

So i guess it is how it is cooked and how fresh it is, like with any seafood.

I enjoy sashimi..I had octopus, scallops and I love sushi, but stay away from the sushi because if the rice

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
