Hi Guys,

Glad every one is doing so well. tomorrow is my big day. I don't feel as nervous today but that will probably change as the day goes on. I know I won't be on here for a couple of days so just wanted to wish every one else being banded this week all the best.

Hi Everyone,

I'm 51 (until October anyway) and have 2 kids (24 & 20), no grandkids yet. I was banded in October (3 days before my birthday) and I have 4.6 in a 10cc band.

This is a great thread, glad you (re) started it, Janet!

Good luck to everyone here!

Ciao!

-Becky

Hi, glad I found this thread too. I am 57 yrs old & 9 months post op. I lost 20 lbs within 4 months cause I was walking 3-4 miles daily. But here is my excuse. I live in Mich & when the weather turned cold, so did my exercise. Gained back 10 since Thanksgiving. At least I have stuck with SMOKE-FREE since surgery Apr 07. Bad habits never die. I will learn to make better food choices & eat slower & chew-chew-chew. Pam-busdriver

Hey there Pam - Did you know that you can walk inside the house - in front of your t.v. where it's warm  No more excuses  - See I have the exact oppesite than you during the summer 120 degrees outside - so the way I solve this - is go to the gym.. I know not everyone can do the gym thing - but you can exercise in the warmth and comfort of your own home - moving is the key...

Congrats on Smoke Free - that right there is a GREAT acomplishment...

I still smoke

Busdriver: There are exercise DVD's available that you can use to "walk" in front of the TV. "Collage Video" sells them.

But another thing to consider is that at your lower BMI, while walking is great, it can;t be the only factor. One mile is approx 100 calories burned, so walking 3 miles a day and not changing your food intake, would only equal about one pound lost every 11 days! And 4 miles would be one pound every 9 days.

That's why lthe best losers combine both deit and exercise.

Of course, I'm not one to talk, I haven't walked since Thanksgiving ( about one week before surgery) so I know it's harder to do than say!

Get your food intake back under control by logging and track your Protein. That will allow you to see where the problem is.

OR do you need a fill?

Congratulations on beating the smoking. Taking on both challenges at one time must be very difficult.

Hi! I'm so glad I found this spot. It is good to have so much support and suggestions. I just received my insurance approval a few days ago so I am now waiting for my pre-o classes (a one day class required by my doc to meet with dietitian, exercise specialist, nurse, coordinator, surgeon, etc. preop testing and set surgery date. ) That is Jan. 30. I am hoping for surgery in mid to late Febuary. It's been a long road but I can nearly see the end.

23_32_7.gifI'm sorry it took me so long to post. Surgery went well (10th), took four days to wake up, but started the soft Proteins on Sunday and began to feel human again. Lots of walking to relieve the gas. I worked Monday & today 4 or 5 hours - boy I could get used to those hours!)

I just so appreciate all the information here, because I knew what was going on as I was experiencing things & that you all had gone through it...it really helps. I'm still trying to figure out when I'm full but if I'm satisfied I stop. Then I read some of the posts I had missed the past week and found out what that little tight burp is I feel. Aha!

There was so much to catch up on! Everyones weight losses, welcome to all the newbies!

Thank you all for your support & prayers.

I'M A BANDER!!!!:clap2: Carol

Congrats on the insurance approval! :clap2:

My insurance covers WLS and I qualify as far as BMI. After my seminar on Monday and subsequent consult I will find out how many hoops they want me to jump through before they approve me. :ponder:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
