Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone and good morning,

I am sort of new, definitely new to posting though I have been on this site reading. I love that there is a 50's group 'cuz that fits me. I have a question, it appears that everyone is newly banded or waiting to be banded. I have been banded a couple of years, would this still be the correct area? Or is there another place better suited?

It is nice to see such a supportive encouraging group of people!

Forreste

Forreste - We have experienced banders here too. It's just that they set up this new forum which is now on the main page - we had/have a thread how is weight loss for those 50+ - but it wasn't easily found - with the new forum setup we are just getting more attention.

I have been banded almost 6 months this month - We have other who have been longer denise - dynomini - green - hrlady just to name a few

This is for everyone... New - Old & inbetween :P

Good Morning All!! Great site!

I just got my 4th fill this morning. I have 7 in a 10 cc AP band. The nurse indicated that some people don't actually get a restriction that allows them to only eat 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup. I can eat a good cup plus. I don't really get hungry though. I get "head" hungry. That is the trying thing. No matter what your restriction is, you still have to say "no" to things you may want to eat. I went all through the holidays at the office and didn't eat any candy or sweets. My downfall is Brown Cow whole milk plain yogurt with orange, pineapple & banana Protein powder in it. That stuff is GREAT!! This tells me that we still have to use our "won't" power more than we talk about.

The nurse told me to only put on my plate what I should be eating. That would work but I'm always eating out with the "gang". This means I've got way too much on my plate that I can eat. Granted, most ends up in a doggy bag, but I feel I'm probably still eating too much. I'm probably beating myself up because I've lost 43 pounds from my highest.

I'm currently fighting the office "crud" so I can't exercise as breathing is hard enough now as it is. I hope to get over this in a couple weeks. I've had it for two already. I hate crackling when I breath but it sort of goes with my gurgling stomach. I'm a regular walking orchestra!

Take care all.

kandiceb - you are doing great. I agree about the head hunger, it is a lifestyle change that includes practicing different types of thought patterns. Sometimes I feel on top of it and other times it is a struggle. What is great about the band is that i don't regain tons of weight before I get the head thing under control.

It is a new world out there.

Best wishes all,

Michelle

I can't recommend any personally, but there are a couple on Amazon.com that have reviews to go with them like this one:

Amazon.com: Chair Aerobics for Everyone: DVD

or this one:

Amazon.com: Chair Exercises for Seniors: DVD: Bob Klein

NoMore Yo Yo,

Thanks for the info about the chair exercises!!!!! They really have a large selection. This is just what I needed:clap2:

:help:Did any of you have to have an arterial blood gas drawn before surgery? If so, did it hurt? I am not looking forward to this, any words of wisdom?

Might hurt a little more than an ordinary blood stick, but nothing excruciating. They usually take the blood from the wrist. Think I had it done once.. not too uncomfortable. Why the arterial blood gases?? Some type of respiratory disease?

Forreste

Forreste, You can post anywhere that interests you. I usually click on new

posts every day, just to see what's going on. I post a lot here, and the

lower BMI thread, but I am definitely all over the place.

Sunshine, You have been tight for quite awhile now. I have heard that we are supposed to eat pieces the size of a pencil eraser. A lot of people are

so tight all day long that they can't eat until evening. Personally, I wouldn't want to be that tight.

I am wondering how long it's going to take me to take off this last 10 lbs. I don't think I can fit anymore exercise into my life than I am already doing.

I have heard that the last little bit is the hardest to take off. :cry

Livn4Jesus,

I had an arterial blood gas done.

It was a typical pre-op workup.

They do usually do them from the wrist.

Mine went very well - I am pleased to say.

But, I don't know your pain tolerance.

Respiratory Therapy generally does them.

I drew them myself years ago. Each patient is different.

Hi, I am being banded next Tuesday and am so thankful for this site and all of you. I have been on here since November and have gained so much information form you guys. I am so scared this won't work. I know I am fat, but I don't think I eat badly. I don't eat all day, don't eat fast foods, don't drink my calories. I don't exercise alot, but I am on my feet at work, not a desk job. I am so afraid I will do this and still be fat. I tell the people I work with that is my biggest fear. Not the surgery, the failure if it doesn't work. I asked my Dr. at my pre op this week if he thinks this will work, and he said, "do you think it will work?" Did you guys fear failure before your surgery? I have been about 216 for years. I gain a few pounds, and loose a few. But nothing I seem to do makes much difference. I have gone to personal trainer 3x week before for 3 months. No weight change. So I think, why do it if it doesn't change anything. I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks. Diane

Diane . . . I REFUSE to even thing about failure for my band! I got my mind set that it is going to work . . . not overnight . . . but gradually and steadily (I hope). I went 3 weeks with no scale movement . . .and now it is finally starting to move again. I was supposed to get a fill on the 2nd, but he postponed it until the 17th . . . and I am sooooo wanting it now . . . If you follow the rules and do your part, along with the help of the band . . . I don't see how anyone can fail! :) (I have a half full glass of Water today lol). Don't flame me anyone . . . this is a pep talk :(

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
