Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

I wish someone would tell me how to log into my "account" on lapbandtalk.com and then find a specific string of emails. I have tried in the past but never know how to find a group of people I chatted with in the past. Can someone email me at my regular email address and tell me. shesinstpete33710@yahoo.com how do I get back to this group. I'm 56 working on my 4th month of insurance requirement testing to be able to qualify for my surgery. I have to do this for 6 months, then see the surgeon for final determination in Oct. My insurance pays for this and I have more than enough qualifiers. How do I stay in touch? Please.. help! Thanks!!

Hi Indiogirl55. I can reply from the email message I got but when I go to the main LapBandTalk.com home page and sign in. From there where do I go? That's where I get confused. How do I find the 50s page?

I hope the surgery is easier to navigate than this forum!

Thanks so much for any additional help you can give me.

Welcome newbies and returnees. Wish my husband had a job. Meanwhile he's destroying our finished basement in order to create an interior moat (Perma-seal's drain tiles) to solve our Water and mold problems. Still smells down there. It'll take us a few years to put the basement back together.

Some of you may be interested in reading my blog on getting the lapband. I deal with a lot of food related issues like codependency, depression, ADHD, and the addiction aspect as well as the actual process of getting the band. It's located at IF YOUR STOMACH OFFENDS YOU, TIE IT OFF

I'm new to the over 50's. I had surgery 8/4/08 and have lost around 80 pounds total with 25 more to go. It sounds like this is a very good place to learn many things. Glad to be here and read many other story's.

thanks

Look right under the 1st picture on your left under the home tab - you will see User CP - click on that...

it takes a while to learn the site for us 50ers - we arent always chatting on webiste :0) I had a hard time at first too. Heck I still get lost sometimes

This spot is great, I am 54 and feel as thought we have a lot in common. The younger girls at my work treat me like I don't quit no what I am doing. I also worry about my husband getting laid off and being replaced by a twentysomething. I look forward to getting plastic surgery on my arms and neck, figured I can stuff everything else inside my clothes. My name is karen and I had a lapband done 5/26/2009. Losing slow and study and that is the best way. Have had only two fills since I had a problem with dehydration in july which landed me in the E.R.

Have to motivate myself to exercise more.

Hope to talk to you all again. :)

Great advise! I have issues with head hunger and the feeling of the empty stomach.

How far along in the process are you. Do you have restriction? I found that when I had that "empty stomach" feeling, that something warm to drink really helped. I love coffee and tea. Sometimes I would mix a a "fake" cappacino. 1/2 cup soy milk or FF milk, 1/2 cup coffee, 1 packet Splenda and 1/2 of a 25 calorie hot chocolate packet. For under 100 cals you have a great treat and is very satisfying.

Good luck to you!:)

Wow can I relate! I am a 57 year old RN. I became a nurse at age 55 and started on a unit with experienced 25 year olds. They were sort of freaked out by me. I had my first lap band in 2005 and lost over 200 lbs. It left me badly in need of plastic work. I recently had that lap band replace (removed due to a slip) and while I was in Monterrey I had a full face lift and my arms done. I just returned to work and they are flabergasted, lol! If I was confusing to them before, I certainly am now. Some would like to think I don't know what I am doing but that is their problem, not mine!

Hi MIMI, I could have probably gone back to work about 4 wks after arm surgery but i also had a hiatal hernia so I was off for 8 weeks. I do a lot of lifting on my job. The scars are red and angry looking but seem to be healing nicely. I expect them to fade really well over the next year or so. I do not have First Lady arms, mine were extremely disfigured before surgery and what i have is normal but floppy granny arms, lol. The face work is loads more dramatic. I have before pics posted also. I will post recent pics in my plastic surgery album soon. I have pics 8 wks out on there now. Just go to my profile and check them out. Thanks a lot.

Corliss

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
