Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

I was always told you can drink right up until you start eating. Then I can't drink for an hour after. It will be the same with the sleeve.

I am in the hospital and one of the doctors loaned me his lap top. The staff and care here is just wonderful. I feel pretty good but have a lot of left shoulder pain that I never had with band surgery. Dr. Aceves told me he fixed a hiatal hernia so he had to blow me up with extra gas.

I didn't sleep well last night because of the pain in the shoulder but they were great about giving me pain meds. I hope tonight is better.

I am glad that I never have to worry about restriction ever again.

Oh and pb and slime are 2 different things. Slime is when your mouth fill up with Water as your body is trying to get the food to pass that is stuck. Pb is what happens if it does not get unstuck. It comes back up.

Oh I am so happy you posted Oregon !!! Glad your surgery went well - I had bad shoulder pain on day after surgery...

How long will you be in hospital?? Did Wasa go with you??

Also - don't stop posting here just cuz of your revision ok - you are still in the 50 age bracket - and you are the only one from the original posters when I joined 5/07 - omg 2 yrs since I have been on lbt - 5/14 to be exact :0)

No WasA could not come because she was off work recently for a long period of time. She could not afford to take some more time off.

Alex is talking about setting up a revision board but I will still be posting on lbt. I am addicted you know!

Got my staples out yesterday.

I was tempted to pull them out myself - with a flat head screwdriver!

(kidding - sorta)

Two and half weeks was too much.

The "big boy" is still angry looking and not totally sealed yet but the 4 "helper holes" look like fine white lines.

Now I'm sporting steri-strips.

First fill of 3cc in one month and I'm a bit apprehensive about it.

I think I'll forgo knitting for a while and return to needlepoint and sewing.

For the time being I'll sew for my children (perfect 2 and 4!)

and then for myself (no more size 18 patterns!)

Needlepoint frog (for my wonderful son) on the frame and a pink Teddy Bear pillow on the sewing table.

Funny development -

Instead of passing on their gorgeous Victoria Secret bras to friends and charity - my girls are saving them for the future me.

I'm a snug 38 D - formerly 34 B -

One daughter is giving up her 34 C's (wishful thinking for her, but they never fit her athletic size 2 blissfully slender and flattish figure).

I'm too realistic to look forward to reviving my size 8 jeans but would LOVE to give up the elastic waist horrors.

Remember WAISTLINES?

Elayne

You are on your way to giving up elastic waist bands forever!! They will never grace my closet again.

As for the bra - I too was a 34b if not an A back in the day - now a 34 (could get 32's) but I am a c cup - don't fill out the top of the bra - (whole delfation problem) but can get pretty good cleveage going on.. I was a 42 D in the beginning of this process...

I agree - like I said mine are totally deflated - I look like the women in the national geographic book - total flat - so finding a bra is hard - some cover too much and show in a tank top - come are too skimmy - I found some at jc pennys that I like...

But what's worse for me is finding elbow length tops - my arms took the most damage - maybe next year I'll get them fixed... I would love to wear all the cute sleeve tops - especially here in the Desert 110 + summer weather...

Hello everyone. I'm new to this board, but wanted to introduce myself. I'm just starting the journey to a new me. I have my band date of May 21, 2009. Just 20 more days! I'm really excited and scared to death. I know I'm doing the right thing, just a chciken about the unknown. I've read the surgery stories and they all sound like the worst part of the surgery is the gas pain. I can handle that. Will make this my new instead of eating activity. I like meeting and making new friends.

Will post more later,

Susan

Hey Oregon -

Check your area and see if there is a bra store. I watched an epsiode of What Not to Wear and it was mentioned that 1 out of 3 women wear the wrong size bra -- so I went to this store that sells only bras -- these 2 elderly women work there - they are hysterical -- anyway, she measured me and, sure enough, wrong bra size. I was wearing a 48B and she said "You're a 44D" I said "HA D NO WAY" ... well she brought several bras, had me put them on and showed me the proper way to arrange the girls .. VOILA -- filled a D cup, no back-bacon and the girls were perky ... and trust me, 44D is a lot easier to find that 48B ... hopefully soon, I'll be to the point where I can actually buy matching bra and panties -- one of my NSV.

My DBF says he will pay for a "perk" job when I am ready ... I don't think there will be much to "perk" when I get to goal. He may have to pay for a boob job instead.

Hi Susan -

Welcome -- I too am new and just starting the journey to a new me. I have opted to go with the sleeve instead of the band - however, we can take this journey together. This is a GREAT site and the people on here are absolutely wonderful and so helpful and supportive. You'll LOVE it - and it is addictive.

Welcome - Susan (in Las Vegas)

Welcome Sue, Dot & Vegas !!!

THANK YOU! Everyone has been so great on this site -- I originally thought I'd get the band; however, seeing as I have to self-pay regardless, I decided to go with the sleeve -- no fills, unfills, etc. Looking at a tentative date of June 12 with Dr. Aceves.

:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
