Hi All,

I'm not taking time right now to read everything I have missed - just no time at this minute. We are in Korea and DD's - DGS is adorable, DD is uncomfortable, but glad mom and dad are here. Her friend is headed to hospital right now to have her baby, but DD is still awaiting. Hope all is well with everyone and I will get back later.

It is a very long airplane ride from US to Korea. A missed flight (due to weather issues) made it even longer. Will talk more later.

Had my pre-admission testing and pre-op consult yesterday.

2+ hours at the hospital - blood, EKG, etc.

During the consult with the anesthesiologist I had a bit of the "second thoughts syndrome"

Even though I'm not a Nervous Nellie type and have done my research and chatted with you wonderful people -

I started to think -

hmmmm - is this REALLY what I should do?

Monday's the DAY and even though I've been on this bumpy trail since August 2008 -

Yeow! - it's already time! :tt2:

I unwisely asked my mother and mentally retarded brother (sorry - that's the term I used since my 1950s childhood and I find nothing incorrect about the phrase) to come for the hour-long trip.

I invited her because I thought she'd like the trip, NOT because I needed a companion - I'm quite independent in many things.

However -

although there was a coffee shop within whispering distance and a TV in the waiting room -

There they sat -

with their coats still on

No magazines in hand

and sat

and sat

I was in the pre-admission "stuff" for well over an hour 1/2

and there they sat

and sat

Then I had to drive cross-town to my surgeon's complex for the pre-surgery consult and again

This complex is very nice and spacious

One big waiting room with a coffee shop surrounded by medical suites

Like a big wheel.

And again - there they sat.

and sat

coats on

hands empty

in silence.

This appointment was about an hour and the image of them sitting out there stuck in my shaky spirit like a buzzing gnat.

With wandering thoughts of "do I really want to go ahead"

my surgeon was uncharacteristically talkative and friendly.

We bantered my test results back and forth making light of my not so great cardio tests and when he suggested fixing my hiatal hernia ("that little bugger") while he was "in there" - my confidence returned and now I'm back on track for Monday.

Meanwhile -

No mommy or brother on Monday either !

She wanted to cook me "something special" for Easter dinner.< /p>

Jeesh - no thank you (I'm tired of explaining liquid diets)

I'm planning to bring my own homemade luscious bowl of broth! :tt2:

Good Morning All !! My name is Doodlebug, also known as Sharon, and I would love to join in your group! I started on this life saving journey back in April 08, telling my family that this is what I wanted to do and although they weren't 100% behind me, they did say I had to do what I thought was best for me. So I started looking up everything I could find and read about it! Come to find out later, my family was afraid that I would change and I wouldn't be the same old Mom or Maw Maw that I was before! I have a sister that had the gastric and she really lost it , she lost her husband, most of her friends and some of her family, just because she thought she was Miss Thang!! I really do love her but I am not going down that same road!! I have my family and co-workers that is going to keep me on the strait and narrow!! But anyway! I went thru 9 months of going to the PCP,all the work up, all the lab, tests and just about everything you can think of and finally got approved in Feb.09, had my surgery on April 06. So today is Day5 on my new life! I'm still having a little shoulder pain, but that's mostly at night and still a little sore at the incision sites. I go next Tuesday to have the staples taken out and I know that will make me fill a lot better!! Well I didn't mean to write so much but I've been reading on here and I know how everyone is so supportive and I am so happy that we have a place like this to go to! Maybe next time I won't talk so long!!

Hey everyone, been a long time since I have been on here, reading or posting, but have ran into a wall, it has 4 months since surgery (Nov 19th) I have lost 51 lbs, my big problem is that I went on vacation, ate things I shouldn't have, didn't exercise for 2 weeks and not I am in trouble and dont' know how to get back on track, went to local support group and found out it was more of presentation type of meetings, gee the night I went it was about plastic surgery to make us look better and the next one is on cooking classes, no one to talk to or give advise....I am not sure on how to get back on track, got in real trouble with Dr because I gained 4 lbs and he wouldn't give me a fill.....I was told I had to lose in the next month.....felt really bad when I left Dr office, sat in parking lot and cried

OK -

Getting really antsy here :cool2:

Countdown is in hours - not days.

My children are all here this weekend and ALL 3 will be with me on Monday.

That's the best thing in the world for me.

My husband and I have put our separation "on hold" for a while - which is a good thing too.

I sat at the kitchen table tonight with my youngest two (22 and 24) and my husband just like old times.

They had steaks, salad and asparagus while I had a Protein Drink and half of a mashed avocado.

Odd - I'm not hungry at all.

Traditional family Easter dinner at my mom's with an early bed time tomorrow.

Surgery time is 8:00 Monday morning - but I have to be there by 6:15 and it's about an hour away.

My daughters will come down later in the morning -

they have dog-duty.

I wish I could bring my black lab with me to the hospital!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
