Helene, I am so glad you are ok. The weight in the hospital is often from IV's and kidneys working more slowly. It will come off. Do not worry!!

On my personal note. Not doing so well, I am eating too much. Our daughter is moving back home (after 3 years in a very destructive relationship). I am so glad she is leaving the relationship, but I am missing our privacy and our quiet way of life. Emo eating going on big time here. I have gained 2 lbs of the 59 I had lost back. I have to get my head straight about this. So glad I have this site. Thank you all. Dot

Hugs Dot - I can imagine how hard that will be - My Son and family were with me for about a month - Yes I love my piece and quite.

Are you going to have grandkids in the house too???

Just sit down and make some ground rules that she has to live by - As the saying goes as long as you are under my roof you have to follow my rules..:scared2: Yes we all end up sounding like our parents:lol:

Helene, We have an awsome God! I knew he would prevail and keep you safe. Welcome Back! The weight gain is more from swelling of the tissues in your abdomin that have been cut and sewed and the maneuvering of your various organs. That weight will come off in a few weeks or maybe even days. Keep coming back here for your support but as indiogirl says, you need to take care of yourself and heal first.

I was frustrated trying to find you. I had remembered you saying who the Dr. was that was going to do the surgery. I actually did a lot of research on Australia and have now decided I really want to visit Australia some day. Seems like a really cool place.

Hugs,

Susan Powell

Katy.........don't think I have ever been so happy to hear from someone. So good to know you are OK and healing. So sorry you lost your band but sounds like your body just did not like it. Keep posting and keep us informed on how you are doing.

Livin'...you have to start saving those pennies and airline miles and make a trip down under. Between DH and I we have spent a total of 4 months. (a month each time). I cannot even begin to explain what wonderful trips they were. We had two exchange students from Australia and their families have been here many times for extended stays (a couple of months at a time). We love our Aussie daughters. Even walked my first one up the aisle at her wedding with her parents. Our second daughter is coming to visit in August with her new DH. We are really looking forward to doing some bonding and getting to know her new man.

Helene---We are so happy you are back and on the mend. The suspense has been almost unbearable. Each day of not hearing from you was cause for more concern. Hope you will continue to let us know how everything is going for you.

Take Care and God Bless---

Hello fellow 50'ers!!!

I am a 58 (holding on until April 11 then 5-9)!! I hope to be getting banded sometime in late May, :party:I'm really excited!!! (And nervous)!!

My only real fear is that my insurance company after all of what I have to do will not approve it. Am looking foward to sharing everyone's outcomes!! What a wonderful support site!!

Welcome Dot! This is a great thread for support and encouragement - and an occasional kick in the pants (not that I have ever needed that...hahaha). I was on this thread and others at least 6 months before my surgery - I learned SO MUCH! It was the best preparation I could have had for my surgery and most of my post surgery every-day questions had been answered by these wonderful people long before I checked in at the hospital. It helped immensely in my "nerves" level as my date approached, as I knew exactly what to expect and what to watch for.

Good luck with your insurance company and all your prepwork - if your company does not have a complete ban on WLS, you should be okay - and if they do have a ban it should be stated upfront. Ask questions early on.

Hi Everyone,

I've been trying to post for three days and couldn't get past the message about being off for a few hours.

Thank you all again for your lovely welcome back messages, I truely appreciate them. Guess what????

I've lost the extra weight and am back to my previous 74.5 kilos = 163.2 lbs. Yahoo!!! Yes, I agree, it must've been all the fluids they were pumping into me.

I had my first day out today, driving my parents to their hydrotherapy sessions, paying bills and a little shopping.

Pushed it too far and ended almost doubled over with stabbing pains in the midriff area. Drove straight home and rested but am still having pain. I'm so scared that I may have busted the hernia stitching. It's OK for doctors to say REST but when you are looking after others, it's very, very hard.

I'll be resting all day tomorrow except when I have to pick up my Granddaughter from school. Then I'll rest again. Thursday I have to pick up my Dad from his cateract surgery and Friday have an hours drive to see the surgeon re- staples being removed and then home again. I'll be taking the drive slowly. Lucky my car is an automatic, there is no way I could make the two hour drive there and back if it wasn't.

I have to admit that it is nice to be able to eat again but I haven't gone crazy and still drink plenty of Water. The reflux, painful burping and toilet problems have all gone and what a pure relief that is. I hadn't been to the toilet properly since October '08 and I still can't believe my other surgeon kept on smiling at me and saying "But look at all the weight you've lost!!!"

When the new surgeon came to take me into the operating room, I asked him if he could remove something else while he was there. I said "My temper please!" He said that he would have to remove his own first. Honestly, my temper and moods were terrible before the surgery. I've calmed down so much since then I can't believe it myself. Of course having the arguement with my mother and my youngest daughter the night before the op didn't help.

They were at me because they didn't believe I could be tired and weak for so long and virtually just told me that I was just being lazy. I would fall asleep anywhere and sometimes really had to struggle to stay awake on long drives to check on my folks house which is an hour away. Thank goodness it sold just before I went into hospital. I was so very hurt by what they were saying to me and the fact of the operation being only a few hours away and not knowing what was going to happen that I ended up telling my daughter to get out and climbed into bed with my granddaughter (I was babysitting). When the results of my blood tests came back with so many things missing and not a skerrick of Protein, they were very quiet. No appologies mind you but very quiet and nice. It was very hurtful though.

Hello, I've written another book again. Back to bed I go with some painkillers.

Welcome Dot, you will never find as nice a bunch of caring people anywhere, as you will on this thread. Take it from me, "their bloods worth bottling" (an Aussie saying for great people).

Best wishes, Helene.

We are ALL glad to hear you are back and feeling so much better! And I'm sure I'm not the only one angry that your family has been treating you the way they have been! :lunch: I hope you begin to see this as a call to begin taking care of yourself better, and let them take care of themselves better--do a little "tough love" with them. I know I have had to learn to do this over the years, everyone continues to take advantage until you don't allow it to happen. I mean, why, for example, are you, who has had major surgery, the one driving family around to other places? You should be the one being driven, not the other way around. Stick up for yourself, you are worth it! And, clearly, no one else is sticking up for you!!!

(By the way, my name is Dot, too, how funny, three of us active on this board with the same name?)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
