Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

PJ - I'm a little bit late getting back with you, but it sounds like your Sunday Breakfast lasted a while! I hope you are able to do that on weekdays, too. Work can be such a drag...a blessing YES, but also a drag...

I had my 3rd fill yesterday. I am considerably tighter today! Everything is going down, but very slowly compared to a few days ago. I think this is okay - and probably where I should be today. I asked why my restriction was only lasting a week or so after a fill. She said it is because I have not been at my best level yet, and also because there is a little swelling that takes place immediately after a fill, and it takes a few days for it to go down. Once I reach the optimum level it should stay with me for a longer time. She put in 1cc (total of 6 now). I am scheduled again for Mar 20, fills getting smaller all the time to avoid problems. She said I may not need the fill on the 20th, but she wants to see me anyway to make sure everything is okay before we leave on our Korean trip. That's okay by me!

I like her approach to fills. She is assertive - without being aggressive, and I think that has been good for me. Since I have not had "perfect" restriction (if there is such a thing!) I have also had to learn to do a good job with my choices and portions. I don't think I would have any losses at all if I had not been working at it from that perspective. It's not easy, though, and don't we all know that!!!

Phyl - I hope you feel better and get rid of whatever "crud" you have going on.

I am excited about it. It's a painful surgery because of having the port removed, but it will be worth it. I will never have to worry about a fill or unfill ever again. I wish I had known about it in the first place. I have to think that if I hadn't found Lap Band Talk, I would not have found all the wonderful people I've found here.

Alex has added the sleeve section to this board, but at the time, it wasn't here. I love this board, and I am thankful for all the wonderful friends I've made here. I wish I could meet more in person, but I have had the wonderful experience of meeting some of my lap band friends in person, which would have never had if I had the sleeve from the beginning.

It's an expensive way to have to go, being self pay both times, but it will be worth it in the end!

Oregon...this is just curiousity...love my band because it works for me but know there are people out there with loads of trouble and converting to the sleeve. It's a brave step especially with being self-pay. Do you know if there are people out there that converted and their ins. company paid? It makes sense to me that if the ins. company paid for the band they would consider the sleeve if they were going to lose there band.

I wish you the best and keep us informed of your decision and what the outcome is. You have had your share of trouble and I can understand why you are converting.

JoAnne...happy your fill is working and that it sticks this time. Go about considering another fill b/4 your trip with caution. My last fill took a good month to kick in. I was scheduled for another but was really on the fence. Happy I didn't do it....but...you are the only one that will know if you need it or not!

Thanks, Apples. I agree - I don't think this surgery is done in Korea. That is one reason for being cautious with another fill. If I have reflux issues or worse - it would be a problem getting anything corrected. I have been successful so far with eating healthier and watching portions, even with sub-optimal restriction. I know I can do the same for a month while in Korea, and it would be better than having problems while there. I am down 29 pounds in 3 months - even without being at my "sweet spot." I am GOOD with that! My DD is so excited about my weight loss, and planning meals to make it work for me. I'll do just fine.

Hi everyone. I have a problem and hoping someone can give me some advice. Does anyone here take Zoloft? I take it, and it has to be taken with food. I was told not to drink anything for 1 hr after I eat. So....when I wait an hr and take the pill I get bad acid reflux and terrible discomfort in my stomach. I want off of it, but I've heard you have to slowly take yourself off. Just wondering if anyone takes this pill and how they do it.

I would try one of two things.. either make an exception and allow yourself enough of a sip of Water to get the pill down, or try swallowing it with a bite of food. I've done that before.

PJ: I take Zoloft and yes it does give me really severe pain if I don't take it with food. So, I take mine in the evening with activia yogurt. I put yogurt on the spoon, then put my pill in the yogurt and swollow. No more reflux. I wouldn't give up my Zoloft for all the rice in China. Lived with severe panic attacks and anxiety attacks for to long and I'm not going back there.

Hope this helps

Hi,

Isn't it strange how medication works differently for people.

I used to take Zoloft years ago but had to wean off it because it made my moods and temper go all over the place.

I wasn't told to take it with food though, just first thing in the morning. Pre band of course.

My doctor changed me to Cipramel and no problems with these at all. I take the Cipramel and Nexium 40mg (for Reflux) with a cold glass of milk in the mornings.

Best wishes.

Hi Everyone,

Well the countdown is now on. Had my bloods done at the hospital I'm having the op at on Monday, today and also went for the pre admission chat. Dr. Padovan has such a great reputation and is apparently very "pedantic" and a "perfectionist" who has a "100% record of no mistakes".

He actually did cancel two other peoples operations to be able to take his time with mine. Even though he had told me this, it was very reassuring to actually hear it from the Pre Admin staff. I've now heard all the bits and pieces about the op that the staff had to tell me. Didn't really want to know all of it but it had to be heard.

I've never been in this hospital before. It's a Specialist Hospital right in Perth (Mount Hospital) but it has the worst parking area of every hospital in the state.

I've been trying to post before and after photos here before I go in but I just can't get the gist of it. I know that seeing the photos of people here helps me to feel more connected to you all and not so alone.

I'm still vomiting 2 and sometimes 3 times a day and suffer bad chest wind and burping continually and the abominal hernia is sticking out like a ruddy soccer ball. I'm very happy with my size even though I didn't get to goal, all except this darn soccer ball that spoils the look.

My Granddaughter can't get over how much my boobs (pardon the expression) have shrunk and has a giggle when she sees my new bras. From 40DD down to 16C and struggling to fill them. I said to her "If I lose anymore, I won't have to buy bras, just get a piece of string and put it around my neck to hold 'em up". (Not a pretty sight). Stephanie absolutely lost it and fell off the bed laughing.

Best wishes to all.

Katy - sounds like you have yourself well informed, and having the help of the DR support staff is great. You are in my prayers and I know all will come out ok.

The "boob" story is great. I was also laughing.

Katy - I had the same trouble with my ticker. Alex had to help me get it into my signature block. I was following all the directions, using the correct "BB" code, but kept getting an "invalid file" response. Once he fixed it for me I've been able to revise it and bring it back in with no trouble.

For pictures in your note - I clicked on the "go advanced" button in the quick reply screen. It gave me the option to attach files (under "additional options"), "manage attachments" - then it allows you to browse your pictures and select one, then upload to the note. I hope that works for you.

The picture I have uploaded is of me holding my brand new grandson - 23 months ago today. DD is in the background wanting him back... (I sure hope this worked! When I previewed the post I had to click on the link to see the pic...)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
