Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

Sorry, Denise, about the color. I just randomly pick one but used green a lot for Christmas. I didnt' realize it was a problem as no one else ever mentioned it. Will use darker ones.

Katy, get thy self to a dr. or an emergency room asap! please, sounds like you have a blockage or something.

Apples, Grandma is in Tavares which is near Leesburg I think. I just talked to her. Looks like she may be moving towards the end of Feb. and that's when I would come down. Are you still there then? I think Ocala is about 45 min from my parents which is where I will stay in Lady Lake.

I just got home a bit ago from taking a Zumba class at the gym. It was kindda fun. I've not taken an aerobics class in years! I was then and still am now a Clutz with a capital C!! But it was fun and I got a good workout.

Thank you Long. I appreciate that. I hated to say anything because nobody else mentioned that shade of green was hard to read. I guess I am just old and my eyes are bad!

I really enjoy the exercise classes at my gym. It breaks up the monotony of doing it on my own most of the time. I wish my gym offered more variety in classes.

Long...we will be back home on Feb 16...looks like we will miss each other again. I, too, had a hard time seeing the green but didn't want to say anything either. The blue is MUCH better.

You really don't need the email notifications. Just click on User CP which is at the top of the screen to the left under the pictures. It brings you to the threads you are posting on.

I missed the emails at first but it's been at least 6 months since I have gotten any and now I am used to the user CP which I think ended up being easier because you don't have to delete the emails. Once you post on the thread again, if you click on user CP again, it will just bring you to a screen that shows all the threads you have posted on.

I am new to this group but am very confused. Your personal info says you had the band removed but you are talking about a fill. Can you please explain this so I can have a clue? Thanks for being patient with my naivete.

Ok, so the original question was "how is weight loss for people over 50?'

Right now for me the answer is "turtle like, slow". I'm at a stand still (yeah, I know that's better than gaining) have no restrcition and 10 days away from Dr's appt, where I will be begging for a fill.

I have been living off willpower for most of the time after surgery and well now "mr. will power" is tired of supporting me. Unless I keep my calories intake closer to 800, i don't lose. For a while "Mr. Will" was keeping me close or under 1000, but lately is climbing and now I'm closer to 1100 and 1200 is knocking on my door. AND I joined the November Nymphs Valentine's day challenge to lose!

Ok, prayer chain, please... that I can keep my calories under 1200 daily until my next appt adn that I get a fill at next appt AND (ok sorry to be greedy with the prayer thing but one more) that I get SOME restriction with the next fill.

I have been such a good girl and really need this one!

Nope I am not getting the emails still either. I miss them, I know how you can go to the User CP to get them but I liked just checking my email and then clicking right on the post and being taken right to it that way.

Also, when I post now the smileys are no longer on the bottom but are on the side and there's less of them, unless you click on more.

Yeah, I like the email notifications, too.

And, then when I can't get to my laptop, I can preview the posts on my Blackberry. It's annoying not to get them.

I agree... the darker, bold print is so much easier to read.

Yep, I started clicking the bold because even though I have 20/20 vision after cataract surgery I still need color to be darker for clarity. I know, I have an Iphone and can't view the LBT emails. I do use the usercp. I am spoiled.

Janet, I ate Basic 4 Cereal this morning . It is good. It has 4g of Protein. It is made by General Mills.

Katy, I am worried for you. This is not good. One day I was constipated and feeling very bad, I called my dr. and he called right back and gave me instructions to use an enema and more (3 X the amount of benefiber). But all of this must come from you doctor. You need help right away.

I feel bad as I have been avoiding the site because I have been really pushing things. Crackers, Cookies and not doing things right. My concern for you is sincere. And also I must stop whinning and get on the band wagon. My best to you! Dot

Hi Charlene,

I'm seriously thinking about having the band removed because I am in so much pain. The first band slipped and caused part of my stomach to go nectrotic 4yrs ago. 16 days in intensive care, not a well girl and no fun at all. I decided to have another go at banding with another surgeon who stiched the band to the stomach in June '08 but this is no jolly fun either and has been going on for ages with no relief. Even with all the pbing I'm not losing any weight and I haven't been to the toilet since the last hernia operation in November '08 (bowels that is, just Water.

Everything I eat, which is very little, just seems to stay in the pouch because it all comes up again sooner or later and with heaps of Fluid. It's heatwave time here so I've been sipping lots of cold fluids. I even juiced fresh fruit in the hope of keeping that down ............nope, not a chance.

My gallbladder was removed after I'd recovered enough from the 1st band removal.

I'm finding it all so very distressing because this has been the only time I'd lost weight (34 kilos = 75 lbs) and had been so excited to be near normal again. To have it all go pear shaped again makes me very teary. I'm still tired because I can't sleep for all the reflux and pbing.

I'm sorry for the whinging, moaning and groaning. I'm a bit depressed.

Best wishes.

I found Special K cereal this past week. Never looked for it before, but it had a free gallon of milk if we bought 3 boxes.

Special K Protein Plus

10g protein, 9g net carbs, 5g Fiber, 100 calories per serving

It smells like raisen bran, so I suspect it has a lot of bran in it. Pretty good, different than their other cereal.

My dog went peacefully on saturday, Went to the Vet and comforted her as she passed..

Now my friend has to put his dear 14 year old golden retriever sown today. WE talked a long time last night, since I had just had to do thesame thing. We just say to ourselves that they are in a better place and able to frolic with all their friends

no weight loss again last week.. but no gain so happy wil that..

If you ate 1 cup of the special K, you would also have about 13.3 g of protein, so no difference there. I can easily eat a whole cup of cereal. I often wonder if there is something wrong with my band. Even when the doctor claims Im restricted as much as she will allow I can eat anything in larger quantities than others here state.

lynn, so sorry to hear about your dog, heart breaking.

LongtoBThin if you are wanting any info on cruising, I'm the cruising Queen, just pm or email me. I probably know more than most TAs and wouldn't be trying to push what will make me commission.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
