Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

Hey Kids! CRAZY week here. Always is just b/4 the end of the year. Doing year end for farm, other business and personal books. I keep them up to date every day but so much to do this last week of the year. Ready to usher in a new year.

Also preparing for HUGE NYE party. Get together with about 20 other families from our lake resort. We all get a room at a hotel, bring food, visit, play games and cards, etc. Was busy most of the morning preparing some food, getting supplies together (I coordinate it so make sure we have paper products, eating utensils, etc.). Been bringing in the New Year for many years in this manner. Love the fact that it's "family" thing and love being around the kids. Us adults can partake in a couple of drinks and not worry about driving.

Back to work. I will smile again on Friday after this is all done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LORI,....AWESOME GOALS!....You can do it!

On a sad note, my mother's sister died last night. It was unexpected. I had to tell my mother even though her heart is bad. Naturally she took it bad. She is 85 and her sister was 83. Anyway, when I got home a little while ago I hit the sliders. I know. I have issues. I have got to get a handle on stress eating. It is my downfall to success......just had to vent and share. Please pray for me. This will be a stressful week with a funeral pending for friday or saturday. I just hope my mother holds up.:frown:

Sorry to hear of your loss. Goodness there's been a lot on here lately. I know when my Grandma's siblings all passed away she took it really hard. She is the oldest of 4 and they are all gone but her. She will be 100 in May. She said she thinks God forgot her. Luckily she's in great health and sound mind. In fact she may be coming to Colorado for her 100th and may move here, my sisters and i are checking out an assisted living place tomorrow.

When you look for a place be sure and check out any retirement homes that are run by churches. My mother lives in one run by the Methodist and she has a one bedroom, one, bath, with a nice kitchen and living room. She only pays 1350.00 a month and that includes

utilities. It is really nice.

I fell so bad for you having to deal with your loss and stress issues. Just try to concentrate on taking care of you mother right now and do what you can to avoid the slider foods. Try to keep one serving size cheese sticks, beef Jerky, Pure Protein Bars, etc. on hand to get you through those times. Sending hugs your way, Charlene!

Apples, sounds like a lot of fun. When I was a young girl my family, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc use to get together for NYE what good times we had!

Charlene, I am sorry for your loss and your mom's loss. You both are in my prayers. It's so hard when older people start losing everyone they know.My mom is 87 in good health and of sound mind. She is the only on left from her family and friends. It gets her down at times, but she loves her great granddaughters, all nine of them and loves to be around them.

Long and your GM is going to be 100! wow! Give my best to your GM. I hope things go well looking for an assisted living facility for her. Can't imagine moving at 100.

THANKS APPLE. I have some Protein bars. I will put them near me and in my purse.

Not sure what bars you have on hand, Charlene, but watch the calories. I have the Pure Protein from Walmart. Do not eat them every day...just as a Meal Replacement when needed. Also throw them in as a snack about once a week when my band is being fickle and I am hungry all day long. They seem to keep me full for quite awhile. They have 180 cals. and 20g protein. The beef Jerky also is handy for a quick fix to hunger. 80cal per ounce and at least 11g protein. I sometimes make it a meal with 2oz and 25g. protein.

deedee16117,

I had to look at your post a couple times. For a minute there I thought I wrote the message. I am having trouble eating lots of things, MAJOR PAIN!! I have even had some pain with oatmeal. Usually the first thing I eat of the day causes some discomfort! Like you, I also can eat the chips and salsa at the Mexican restaurant with no problems. Weird. I finally called the doctor and have an appt dec 30th. I don't want them to unfil any but don't want all the pain either. Of course chocolate and ice cream cause no pain at all. Can't eat eggs, steak, prime rib, chicken breast, actually can't eat most chicken, and turkey. I tried a bite of Peanut Butter and bread, whoooooo thought I was going to die!!

Laney; You are TOO tight. If you can't eat solid protien that is not good... it then becomes too easy to turn to slider foods that will not help you achieve weight loss.

JMO,

Candice

Hi Everyone,

I, too, am glad the holidays are winding down. I feel like my real band-life is in limbo right now - not particularly restricted (with no fill) and moving toward a "normal" diet a little each day as directed by the surgeon. I get a bit of a reminder ("hey, I'm here - remember me?") every once in a while, but for the most part I am doing 90% of the work by myself. Its okay - I expected this phase. I don't get hungry often, and Portion Control has been good.

I go in on Jan 9th to get my first fill. I am looking forward to having more restriction and hope I am as fortunate as some of you who have had good restriction with 1 or 2 fills.

Our little group has sure had some sad difficulties in the last few weeks. My heart goes out to you who are losing parents, siblings, and other loved relatives. In our 50's we are the sandwich generation - still have children who are trying out their wings and need our care; and parents who are losing their independence, in poor health - and need our care. DH and I have been through it, too, and it is really hard. I miss my mom and dad every day. (and, yes, I talk to them, too!) Charlene, I am sending very special prayers for you and your mom. Mimi, I pray you can rest and regain your strength after these difficult days.

Lovin' all of you, my friends,

I echo JoAnn's thoughts - so many people saying goodbye to loved ones. It's always hard, but especially when it's supposed to be a happy time of year. I returned to work today (hospital) and was informed of several deaths - unexpected - in the past days, and especially on Christmas. Very sad!

This is a tough time of year all around - from economy issues, the usual winter trials and short dark days, and the let down after the holidays (well, there's still Near Years, but for our family NY's is kind of an anti-climax) It's still so long before the hope of Spring can set in. Basically, I hate winter! Yeah, the snow can be pretty - but this one has been especially brutal (or maybe I'm just getting old!)

Best wishes and prayers to all you who are grieving and struggling!

I was 50% better today with avoiding junk foods -- still succomed to a couple Peanut Butter balls and pepermint brownies tonight after supper. On the other hand, kids home today and they ate some of it up, so that's good.

Tomorrow will be better!

Hi Charlene,

So sorry to hear of your loss. You are certainly in my prayers. This Christmas and New Year has been very sad.

The night before Christmas Eve a close family friends son 15 yrs passed away from Leukemia. His mother had only recently been told nothing more could be done for him but they gave him 12 months at the most. She and his younger sister are devastated of course. The funeral is tomorrow, New Years Eve.

Best wishes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
