Banded 1/5 - Am I supposed to feel the port?

Recommended Posts

I couldn't and still cant' feel mine. When i had my first fill the nurse really had to search for it, it hurt a little after that, but otherwise I'd never know it was there.

I have always been able to feel mine, but now that I have lost a lot of weight in this area I can even see it sticking out. Some people feel it some don't. a lot of it depends on where it is located and how deep it is placed. I wouldn't worry.

i was just going to say the same thing jfran. hope to look good someday to. my port is deeper in, my doctor had to really push around to get the needle in the right place. i had my first fill on friday and i can feel a little something going on in that area but i think its because of the long needle that they use. i will let you know in about a week if i can still feel it.

It's common to not be able to feel it at first - but especially depending on how much abdominal fat you have. When I go in for fills, the NP has everybody lay flat with a pillow under the back to help push the port to the surface. I can feel mine, and it has gotten more prominent with each pound I lose.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
