Hi Trish,

Good Luck with your surgery I'm sure it will be a breeze. I had mine done there to. We probably have been at the same meetings, with Jerry and Beth. I don't know if I'm odd or not but the day I went home I had NOOO pain. I had to keep reminding myself to relax and not over do. I have never watched so many movies as I did that week. Make sure you have all your broth and Jello and freezie pops and stuff . You'll do great.

I had Dr. Boorse, December 27, 2007. My Christmas present to myself lol!!! But really, i lost less work that way. We had Christmas Vacation and I went back to work the 7th afternoon after my surgery. (he wouldn't let me go back sooner, but I felt like I could) I'll be thinking of you ~0nly good thoughts~~8/12~~and you'll be home 8/13.

My wife and I were thinking about going to Lehigh Valley Hospital b/c it is much closer to home. However, the six month wait is NOT required by our insurance. At the informational seminar they made it sound like all insurance companies require the six month wait. We decided to south to Elkins Park since we could get the surgery sooner.

Congrats on your success! I just finished the 6-month program with Beth and Jerry - Dr. Boorse will do my surgery this fall-waiting for insurance approval. Would love to hear about your experience - did you feel any restriction after the surgery; how long till you received your first fill; what do you eat now; are you exercising; how many days till you felt like going out of house and driving (have two teenagers who I drive EVERYWHERE!); any problems or complications; how much weight do you lose per week on average

Lots of questions - sorry - just very anxious to hear a success story to give me a boost. Continued good luck to you - I was at last week's group meeting at the hospital - do you go to these meetings?

Thanks!! Kay

Hi Kay,

and Thanks, I really feel like I accomplished something. I haven't seen the weight I'm at now for aaaaahhh, when I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter who's 20 now. LOL.

I was at that meeting Wednesday night. I was sitting in front of the woman who was talking about how easy it is for her to get drunk now. She had the by pass surgery.

We could have been at one or more of the same meetings. I'm the person who can eat Burger King ( no dressings.365 calories) for lunch and plateaued for 5 months. Shame on me!

My Surgery was a breeze. I had no pain when I left the hospital, and never did after that either. I hope your that lucky. I felt like going out everyday after my surgery but I kept telling myself, NOPE stay home and grow back together, then after a week when he said ok I haven't been home ONE WHOLE DAY YET>LOL!! After surgery I lost 10 pounds because I was on liquids and Jello. At my 1 week check up he let me go back to work!!! And, I drive a school bus so I must have been fine or he would not have released me.

I don't know what your approach will be to being banded but mine is, it took me 20 years to get this size so as long as I lose a little or stay the same but DON'T GAIN weight I'm happy.

Beth always stressed to eat balanced meals and healthy Snacks and I try. I'm not doing great with the balance but I try daily! I will not "DIET"! I WILL teach myself to eat the proper foods and amounts.

I had 3 FILLS until I felt any restrictions. That helped, but I actually needed 2 more until it got just right. After the 3rd fill I lost about a pound a week. The 4th stayed the same, so the 5th made it go to an average 1 1/2 a week. That was JULY. So 7 months after my surgery is when I felt full sooner.

Breakfast is my high calorie start with 2 scoops of Protein powder 220 calories, and maybe a 80 or 60 calorie yogert. But not often, I'm to rushed in the AM to eat when I work. Weekends I have 2 eggs for Breakfast and now I find that is a little much. YEAH!

I can't seem to grasp the calorie counting with home cooking so I'm going for lean cuisine ($2.00 a box on sale) for lunch . And supper is chicken or Turkey and (truethfully) that's it. I later have some fruit or veggies while I watch tv. (before 8:30) I go to bed between 11-12.

It is SO increadably cool though to wear an XL now I can't wait till I buy a LARGE. WOW. Good Luck, Dr. Boorse is great, and the Fall is a great time for broth and hot Soups, you'll love it.

Diane

I'm glad to see some others from Lehigh Valley on this board. I finished the six month program last week and am waiting for insurance approval. I don't know how long that will take. Pat in Dr. Boorse's office did not give me a date yet, though she did for some others in my group. I look forward to learning more.

Henry

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
