Lots to lose

Recommended Posts

I started this journey with the need to lose 180 pounds. I am more than half way there and I'm only 10 months out from surgery (tomorrow!) and I can't be more thrilled.

The band has been fantastic and will continue to be the best thing I've done for myself.

Thanks for the encouragment. I have about 135 left to lose. Right now I have no restriction and I'm gaining back so I need to know that there are better days ahead.

Holy smokes, I could write a book...

It took me 14 months to get the surgery and lots of wrangling. During that time I went back to therapy to really get a grip on what role food and eating plays in how I relate to the world.

Also, I got this attitude that I've had surgery ***SURGERY*** to lose weight therefore I need to everything within my power to be successful. So I studied and read and did as I was told. I started exercising knowing it would be key. I started slowly and kept (and keep) adding new challenges. I tried running at 260 and that hurt so I started again at 220 back in October. That was 30 seconds of running to every 2 minutes of walking. Little by little I've added more. I'm still a novice but it's things like slowly chipping away at old bad behaviors and adding new behaviors a bit at a time.

That way I've never felt like I've abandoned my old self in favor of this new gal and I've also taken the time to really enjoy the process. I'm not in a huge rush, but I'm consistent.

And with all that "rah rah rah" stuff there are some shit filled, I hate this band days! But they are few and far between. I think preband, there were the shit filled, I hate this life days that I now just direct toward being banded. You know take it out on the most obvious target?!

If you want more of my journey my blog is Lap Band Aid

Thanks for asking about me. See yet another benefit of being banded...I appreicate it.

I was banded in sept.07 and had about 127 lbs to lose- I am 1/3 of the way there only after 4 mo-I too feel blessed to be banded- I will admit the holidays were rough-but I am back on track and will continue to work this band. Juli you are an inspiration-congrats on all your hard work- i tried running intervals too-but running is just not for me so it is the elliptical for me on the workout front and staying away from carbs-good luck all!

I'm so excited about these new forums!! I'm Wendy. I was banded on November 19, 2007. I have lost 27 lbs since Oct.

The surgery was a family affair for me. My DH was banded on November 14, 2007 and my oldest was banded on Dec. 17, 2007.

I have about 100 lbs to lose. My first big goal is to get below 200. I just can't wait to see a 1 as the first digit in my weight.

Wow Juli! You have done great. I feel like you do . I have paid a lot for this band and i plan to make it work. I was at the gym today for an hour of hard cardio and i love how it makes me feel. It is a little tough right now because i need a fill but can`t get in for three more weeks. Busy doc. I am having a tough time right now with hunger, but i have not gained anything, i am just stuck at 187 right now. Oh well, sure beats 237 where i started. Welcome to the new folks on the thread. Donna

Hi ladies! I need to lose about 190 still. I am so glad to see others that are having great success!

Juli~ thanks so much for these words: "Also, I got this attitude that I've had surgery ***SURGERY*** to lose weight therefore I need to everything within my power to be successful." I will remember this when I have rough days!

Awe shucks you all.

LA,

I checked out your blog. There's some good reading on there.

Crystal,

You'll do so great. Think this time next year you'll be close to or at goal!

Donna,

Don't you hate doc's and their busy schedules? Hang tight. Like you said, not gaining is a victory too, especially when the band needs adjusted!

Nice to meet you all!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
