Swelling and Redness around my Port???

Recommended Posts

Okay so last night my port was tender. I went to the bathroom to wash my face and get ready for bed when I looked inot he mirror my stomache was red in the area where my Port is and it was a little warm.

Now the port area has been tender and sensative for a couple of days but what concerns me now is the redness on the skin right over the port. Has anyone experienced this?

I think you should call your doctor. Is there anything coming out of the port area? I would call the doc, he might want to put you on an antiobotic.

Best wishes.

GO SEE THE DOC! You don't want to lose your port/band due to an over active infection. Take care of it NOW!

I called the office and they want to see me tomorrow. The pain has subsided but it is still a little red.

After I posted the question I thought why not call the doctor.

Thanhks all!

I called back and spoke to the main nurse in the office (Sara) she said without a fever, it is more then likely a Fluid build up around my port. I have an appointment this afternoon to have him look at it and I'll let you all know.

Okay so I saw the doctor, he said I have Fluid building up around my port. he said he made a pouch for my port in the muscle and its common for fluid to build up. he said as long as I am not running fever and its not causing too much pain its okay. I just have to keep an eye on it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
