Perth people, where are you?

Recommended Posts

Hi Im new to this site (just found it today). I am from Geraldton (little bit from Perth) but it would be great to speak to others from close by and the same surgeon. I got an email from Dr Watson tonight saying he could do the initial consult in the same week so I dont have to travel to Perth too much. He has given me a surgery date of March 19th and I cant wait. I chose him from just researching on the net but it seems I have made the right choice as everyone seems to be going to him. The surgeon in Geraldton is a general surgeon and I didnt feel comfortable with someone that hasnt done thousands.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site too. I am so glad that I found it though, there are so many inspirational stories on here....I love it!!!

I have an appt with Dr. Watson in March. I am not that patient but I guess I will have to be :myscared: I am just sooo excited, what I did want to know though was, how long did everyone have to wait before the actual op? I am ready to go in there and just say 'yes, do it to me right now' lol lol

Anyway, I have to dash i have a 8month baby boy......and he is very active!!!!

Keep up all the great work guys, you are all so inspiring to me.

I know there are several Perth bandsters out there. The Melbournites and Sydneysiders have their own thread and we should too!! So who in here is from the West?

HI Fanny

I am new to this site and have found it to be really good for geting heaps of information. I am due to see Dr Keiarth in perth on 7th March, its a long wait, and its killing me. I am a bit worried that he wont put the band on for me as I am only 35 kgs over weight. My doctor did reccommend it as my weight keeps going up, and there is history in my family for diabetes. I am on a waiting list ot go in earlier, and hopefully I may get in sooner.

thanks jo

perthchick - I had a girlfriend who saw Dr Watson and 2 weeks later was banded, I think I waited about 2 months before I made the actual decision to be banded and once I made the decision was banded pretty much straight away.

mojo479 - like you I was only about 35kgs over weight, and I also had a family history of diabetes, plus I have osteoarthritis, and according to my GP, even at 35kgs overweight, the surgeons generally won't knock you back - GOODLUCK!!

Rastis

thanks for your information. That does help. I am ging ot be ringing up this morning to see if there are any cancelations, although I know there wont be. But I can try. March seem to long to wait. I dont know if I can wait that long, with out trying to lose some weight. But I am worried that if I lose some I wont be able to get it done.

thanks Jo

Nat36 - time will fly and the op date will be here before you know it.

Fanny - how did your fill go yesterday? Did you go ok with your weight loss? I bet you were stressing about nothing!!!!

mjo479 - I was a little naughty once I finally decided to get the band done, and went a little more crazy with my food than normal. But now that I am banded I just can't do it anymore. I have had one occassion where I overate and I felt absolutely disgusting - got the worst shoulder/back pain and felt like throwing up and this lasted for about 1-2 hours, it was awful, I haven't done that again. I actually serve my dinner up on a bread and butter plate (same as my kids) and I find this works really well.

Cheers All - Rastis

I am a bit worried that he wont put the band on for me as I am only 35 kgs over weight.

I was about 30 kg overweight and I got the lapband put it. My main health problem was that I had a liver tumour in the past and being overweight increases the chance of it happening again.

Dr Watson did mine also...Fanny what time was your appt with Dr Watson on the 15th? I think it was about 10.15am when I went in and saw him. I was sitting in the waiting room wondering if there was anyone from here sitting there but I didn't want to ask a total stranger if they also had a lapband in case I embarassed them.

I was due to have my second fill but he decided not to give me one as I am still steadily losing weight so I go back again at the end of Feb.

Hi Rastis  The appointment with Dr Watson went really well. I was in and out in 15 minutes flat! He was pleased with my weight loss (9kg so far), which has started to come down again after stopping/going up for a couple weeks after the op.

I wasn't sure that I really needed a fill, as I haven't been having that hard of a time sticking to the portion sizes. I do the same thing - use either a small Soup bowl or a small side plate and don't heap it up. I find if I'm eating solid food, that really fills me up and sticks for hours. If I have liquids though, like the Optifast or Soup, I am hungry again an hour later.

I told all this to the Doc and he ended up doing only a 1cc fill, which is half the normal first fill. It was a piece of cake too - tiny little needle for the local anaesthetic and then felt nothing after that.

Mss: My appointment was 9am and I was walking back to my car by 9:15! Sorry I missed you. I do the same - surreptitiously look at others in the waiting room and wonder if they are posting here.

Hey Fanny - that's great 9.2 kgs you must be stoked. I only have 1cc in at the moment as well, but I wish I had more. After all the trouble I had, Dr Watson didn't want to rush with putting in the 2cc incase I had more pain.

My next appointment is 8th Feb, so I am looking forward to that because I definately feel like I need more restriction, and my hubby got out the scales for me the other day and they are not budging, so more restriction is definately needed.

Have a great day - Rastis

Hi all,

I go to the Vic Park Lesuire centre and do Water walking for half an hour to an hour a day.

Today i'm going to the specialist gym at the Mercy Hospital Bariatrics centre. $12 for non members to go and they give you a 45min work out with people training in lap band surgerys.. will let you know how it goes.

Any one who wants to come excerise with me is welcome too. The Vic Park Lesuire centre is like $24 a fortnight (yes i get my money's worth!)

I could always do with more motivation!

Hi all,

Also new to this site. Rang Dr Watson Jan 7th and having op Wednesday (!). Finding Optifast a challenge. Reassuring to know of other people on the same journey and with the same surgeon.

Heheh - yeah, Doc Watson moves fast! I had my first appointment with him on Nov 27 and had the op on Dec 10! Had to start the Optisludge diet immediatelly - no time for one last supper :cursing: He's very competent though - heard nothing but good things about him.

omg optisludge is so right! Thankfully only doing 8 days as just got back from holiday. Kids think it is hilarious so am giving them brussels sprouts for tea - one of the only things I can think of that taste worse than Optifast.< /p>

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
