Night time snacking problem...help!

Recommended Posts

I have horrible night snacking issues. I thought eating normal meals during the day would help, but it didn't, so I'm back to skipping my b'fast and lunch most the time and eating dinner, then having my late night snacking.

I like 1oz of beef jerkey (70c) and/or (depending on what I've eaten for the day) 100c shortbread cookie pack. The jerkey lasts a while, and has Protein, so it generally satisfies me.. unless I also have a sweet tooth, and the shortbread Cookies have a lot in there, so by time I finish it, I'm done being in snack mode.

The 100c Sandies are YUMMY. I'll sometimes have those or boil some edamame to eat.

I have found South Beach Bars are really good - 19 grms Protein - they are big and 210 calories - Last night had one - cinnimon something and it was good - they have peanutbutter & choc too..

We don't have kids, so this might not work for everyone but we've removed everything sweet, salty or junk from the house with the exception of one bag of miniature Dove dark chocolate bars.

They're about 40 calories each and if you eat them slowly and let them melt on your tongue for the full "mouth experience" the craving for chocolate and munchies disappear (for us anyway).

We allow ourselves 2 per person as an after dinner treat. (DH is banded as well and is as much a chocoholic as me).

I went to snackaisle.com and ordered some lightly salted Edamame by Seapoint farms, Pretzel crisps (saw this on Unwrapped), Pita chips (also saw this on Unwrapped), and caramel covered Pirate's Booty.

Suppose to be organic and healthy stuff.. and everything had decent calorie count. I'll let you know if any of it's good!

I eat the frozen unshelled edamame by Seapoint Farms. They also sell frozen unshelled edamame in a Dora the Explorer package that contains 6 snack-size bags that you can defrost individually. I've thought about buying some of the shelled edamame and using it in Soups or as a side dish. I had teriyaki ginger chicken sausage last night, and that would have been good sliced up in some brown rice, mixed with shelled edamame and a little grilled pineapple.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
