Night time snacking problem...help!

Recommended Posts

So I start the day so good! I eat soooo well all day, and then at night I go into vacuum cleaner mode! Ahhh! I'm not really hungry, but I just feel like I need to snack. I don't get very full because its not very much food at a time...just a little every few minutes. I need help stopping this horrible habbit. I've tried drinking large amounts of Water but it doesn't really work. Any other suggestions?:speechles

Nighttime snacking is my biggest problem too. Lots of evenings I have a 100 calorie package of popcorn because it is filling yet pretty harmless calorie-wise. Quaker rice cakes (cinnamon toast flavor is my fave) are filling too. If I snack on something small, I just keep going back for more.

In The Evenings After The Kids Go To Bed It Also The Worst For Me!!! I Like Luigi's Italian Ice Cups They Are sugar free And Only 60 Cals. You Have To Eat The Slow Because Of The Texture In The Cup. You Kind Of Shave It Off With A Spoon So It Feels Like You Are Eating Longer And Getting More. Also I Like To Buy Mixed Nuts In The Shell, By The Time You Crack And Get To The Actual Nut You Feel Like You Have Ate Alot When You Really Have'nt!!!

Mid-evening (7:30 - 8:00) I have a Protein shake--it really DOES take the hunger away!

I am EXACTLY like you--when I don't have a Protein shake, I am ravenous, looking into the cupboards and refrigerator for anything to snack on (old habits are so-o-o hard to break, eh?!)--

So try the Protein Shake and then head to bed early!!! :)

I drink a glass of milk, something I learned during my 6 mos pre op with a dietician. Takes the edge off. Plus, it gives you a good amount of Protein.< /p>

Jigglepuff:

Cute name. Night time is my most trying time too. I try crunching on ice cubes. sugar free popsicles are good too.

One of the doctors at my lapband support group recommended these rice crackers that are pretty good too, and I think they're less than ten calories each.

Going to bed early helps too. Any activity that didn't involve eating before banding works great after banding. For instance, sitting in the tub soaking with a good book. Long, hot shower. Take a walk if you have the energy as long as it doesn't wake you too much before bed.

Good luck.

Sue

I'm with you Make 33...I have a Protein Shake around 7:30-8:00pm and it makes ALL the difference in the world!! I also brush my teeth immediately after!! I'm 8 days into a "PRE" pre-op diet doing small very low carb meals supplemented with a couple of Protein Shakes. I will do this for two more weeks until I go into my "official" pre-op diet of 2 shakes and one small meal a day. So far I found that late evening Protein shake to be my saving grace!!

Try keeping healthy foods around. Like someone else said, the 100-calorie packs are good, as well as edamame (soybeans). If you buy un-shelled edamame, it gives you something to do with your fingers, as well, and it makes it seem like you're eating a lot more than you actually are (which helps with head hunger). Plus, it's good for you and a very good source of Protein.< /p>

I am struggling with this as well. I can eat great all day and turn into a binger at night if I am not careful. I have told myself there is NO eating after 8pm period. If I get hunger pains, then that is my body diving into the fat stores for energy (according to Bob Green anyway, and if it isn't true, I am still going to try to believe it). I have been pretty successful but it has only been about 10 days....

nothing is easy, even with the band! And I must agree, junk goes down sooo easily!

Thanks guys I am going to join you all on this eating healthier at night time thing!

I have become addicted to jelly belly's! They taste so darn good! It's terrible.

But tonight I am going to have a hot protien drink instead! and then go to bed, I might even jump in the hot tub

I am right there with you - I am a night time eater and even will wake up 1 a.m. want to eat..

I budget my calories to cover my night time Snacks - I will have 1 or 2 sf choc puddings - or sf fudgecicle or the snack size popcorn and eat one piece at a time.. And during the middle of the night will have a little lite oj or cran-grape juice - seems to be working for me....

My whole family are night time eaters - i say our mom never weaned us from the bottle.

Good Luck with the battle..........

I'm right there with all of you. I exercise after work, so I don't get home until 7:15. By then I'm ravenous. I haven't eaten since noon, and I still have to wait to cook dinner. I want to snack while I'm cooking. The kitchen smells drive me insane. I try to eat a cube of cheese, or a slice of deli turkey, but sometimes I can't control the grab for a potato chip or some crackers. It's awful. Water does not help. When I'm that hungry, it just makes me nauseous, and if I drink that late in the day, I'm up all night peeing and get no sleep at all. this is by far my worst problem.

I have horrible night snacking issues. I thought eating normal meals during the day would help, but it didn't, so I'm back to skipping my b'fast and lunch most the time and eating dinner, then having my late night snacking.

I like 1oz of beef jerkey (70c) and/or (depending on what I've eaten for the day) 100c shortbread cookie pack. The jerkey lasts a while, and has Protein, so it generally satisfies me.. unless I also have a sweet tooth, and the shortbread Cookies have a lot in there, so by time I finish it, I'm done being in snack mode.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
