High Fructose Corn Syrup

Recommended Posts

This may be better in the food thread but I was wondering what you all do or have done about limiting sugars and specifically High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) from what you eat?

I'm starting to recognize I have issues when I eat this stuff, like I want more and more of it, so I'm trying to rid it from the foods I eat. Aside from Heinz ketchup and Jif Peanut Butter I should be okay...

Just looking for your thoughts and feedback on the subject. Anyone?

Hey Julie

I've been craving sugar like crazy since the holidays. Tomorrow I am starting the cut sugar and carbs from my diet for a while, at least until I can shake these cravings. You're right, once I start eating these foods, I want more and more. I've been feeling so icky lately and I know it's because of my food choices.

I hate the stuff. I was eating something the other day, sorry can't remember what it was, but I looked at the ingredients and damn if it wasn't in there. It was something that wasn't even sweet. I think that food companies put it in foods to make us addicted and keep buying the crap!

I think you are so right! It's cheap and addictive. I've never been one to be all nut and twiggy, but there's something to not eating hightly processed foods and eating food grown locally. When you think about the environmental footprint of the food industry it boggles the mind.

anyway.......

It's something I've started paying attention to also. It's hard to eliminate it completely without going totally whole food...not that there's anything wrong with eating whole, natural foods, but sometimes it just doesn't work. The stuff is in all prepared foods, it seems. And you're right, it's totally evil, addictive stuff. I have been cooking more, using whole and organic ingredients, and using prepared foods less, that does help. I think it's going to be a long process to get the stuff out of our diets. I have a feeling that eventually HFCS will get the attention that trans fats have gotten and will someday get a bad enough reputation for all the health damage it does that companies will be forced to stop using it. But I'm sure they'll find something else to replace it...we just have to have our cheap ready-to-eat foods, at least in the US.

I tried yobaby to start out with since my hubby's favorite is Soneyfield farms which makes yobaby. She hated it. I tasted it and it is hardly sweet at all. I guess if you like plain yogurt flavor then some might like it. I am not a big yogurt fan, though. I also tried some other brand specifically geared towards babies and it tastes like the yobaby. They are good brands cuz they don't have as much sugar in them, but my baby doesn't like them. I wish she did cuz my hubby is type 1 diabetic so we are having to watch out for our little girl who might get it. I try and watch how much sugar she is getting. I also, because I have a weight problem, am trying to keep my baby intrested in Water, veggies, and wholesome Snacks. As opposed to loads of fruit juice, gatorade, Cookies, cakes, and ice cream. Funny thing is, while I am trying to do this, my family sabatoges my efforts by giving her cakes and other crap! I tried to explain to my family the reason why I want to limit her sugar intake, but they don't seem to listen.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
