post surgery weight

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has been posted before, but why do I weigh more than I did the day of surgery? I'm consuming less calories, etc than I did on my pre-op diet.

Also, does anyone else feel completley ungraceful getting out of bed or up from a chair? My abdomen is so sore that the easiest way to get out of bed is to sort of slither off the edge onto the floor and then stand up, lol.

What day was your surgery? My guess, is that at the hospital, you were pumped with fluids through your IV, and you are retaining much of that Fluid. You probably entered the hospital a little dehydrated from a 24 or 48 hour pre-op fast? Remember, you are looking for long term weight loss. What you lose or don't lose in the first few days after surgery is not really significant to the big weight loss picture.

Thanks, that does make sense. I did have an IV of saline. I was just curious.

Its the bloat, the doctor explained that to me. Also, your belly swells a bit, mine is still swollen 6 days out, and I am at the same weight as I was on the day of the surgery.

Besides, in the first month, the band is wide open, and you ideally should lose, but quite a few people do gain. I have seen that on various posts here.

I have decided to not weigh myself at home. I am just going to wait until I get to the doctors visits. I don't think I need to add the extra stress right now.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
