My first fill was Dec 18th 2007. I haven't lost any weight but have cheated quite a bit with holiday food. I'm trying to get back on track now. I was able to tell I had restriction right away. Not that I filled up quickly, because I can still eat quite a bit, but I get "chest Pain" if I eat too quickly. Remember to chew!Chew!chew! My appt was at 1:30 and my doctor instructed me to have a light Breakfast and no lunch. My fill was done under "fluoro" so the doctor could watch me swallow the barium and watch the restriction. Afterwards I had to stay for 5-10 minutes to demonstrate that I could drink a glass of Water without difficulties. Don't be impatient. It took a long time to get to this point and you ARE going in the right direction. Happy new year!

I'm 7 weeks post op and have not had a fill yet. I've lost 26 pounds. I'm at a plateau now though, I'm getting a small fill my next appointment. I have a 10cc band and had 4cc put in at time of surgery. I do have a little restriction, but not much.

I have had two fills so far, each time it takes about two weeks for me to be able to eat a little less than before (it takes ny fills sometime to kick in). My first fill, which was 2cc's in a 10cc band, there wasn't to much of a difference. My second fill which was 1cc took about 3 weeks to kick in. I can still eat quite a bit sometimes, but the satisfaction of being full lasts ALOT longer. I ate a meal of grilled king fish, a table spoon if rice and salad ( I ate all of it ) at 4:30pm on Sat. by the time I was ready to go to sleep for the night @ 12am I was still full and had taken a short nap at 6pm. So you do notice a difference. Also as trapped inside said make sure you chew, chew, chew!

I actually hit my own personal sweet spot on my first fill.....but didn't realize it until I went and got another fill. Long story, but I ended up too tight and had to have all the 2nd fill taken out. It actually made my first fill volume on the too tight side too. So now I am at my first fill volume, but have more restriction and am slightly still too tight. Don't know why at the same volume it feels tight, but it is.

I had restriction with my first fill, 1cc in a 4cc band. It lasted almsot a month. With my second fill of .4cc it didn't make any dent. So I went back for a third fill a week later of .6cc which brought me to 2cc in a 4cc band. My third fill was 12/6 and I feel restricted a whole month later. I'm supposed to go in for a fill this week, but am going to cancel it because I definately don't need one. Hmmm, could this be my sweet spot?

I don't know about the weight loss, got my first fill last thursday. I've been really tight and can feel restriction. But, I still am not eating the suggested 1 cup. I probably am eating around 2 cups. I have a hard time swallowing unless I take really small bites and chew really well. I think I may have overdone it at lunch today. I am STUFFED. I am definitely eating less than before the fill. I've heard though that the stomach can settle, and even though I feel a lot of restriction now, I may not feel as much after a few weeks. I HOPE I can write back soon and say that I have lost weight!!! I should though, because I am eating much less. Last wednesday, the night before the fill, I ate 11 hot wings. Yesterday for lunch, I only wanted 4. That is a big difference.

and, my doctor told me he wasn't that strict about eating before a fill, but I've read where others say their doctor says not to eat. I asked my doctor because he had not told me not to eat. He DID tell me to eat soft foods for a few meals afterwards to find out how my stomach handled the fill.

I have a 10cc band and got a 3cc fill.

I was banded in Sept 07 and had my first fill at 7 weeks post-op. I felt restriction right away and noticed that I was eating very little. I actually had a hard time eating my three small meals. I was never really "hungry" and skipped breakfast usually. I didn't lose much weight at first, the nurse at my surgeons office said that it was because my metabolism was slowing down because I wasn't eating enough. I stated to have a very small breakfast and in the six weeks since then I've lost 15 pounds. Lately I've been eating alot more and not feeling satisfied for longer than three hours. I have my second fill tomorrow afternoon. The dr said he'll try a 1cc "booster" and we can see if that makes a difference.

I was banded 3 months ago and have only one fill, 3 cc's in a 14 cc band. I have to admitt that I don't have a lot of restriction, but I do have some. Enough to keep me loosing for the moment. If my family has pizza, I can eat one piece. Where before it would have been 3 pieces. The most I normally eat is one cup of food. If I go over this I will have some difficulties. At times I feel I want a fill so my weight loss will speed up, but I'll then remind myself that things are going great and I'm still loosing. I'm going to save my fills until the weight loss slows way up. Also, the clinic where I have my fills won't give fills if you loose over 2 pounds per week on the average. So I couldn't get one if even if I wanted.

I just had my first fill today, 1.25 cc (don't know band size). My doctor said it was okay to have a light meal in the morning but not to come with a full stomach. I have to do 2 days of clears then 2 days of full liquids before I get to eat, so I don't know if I'll feel any restriction, but I hope I do! I was losing well before and had lost 15 lb since surgery (11/29) but now I regained 4! I guess the 4 days on liquids should help with that anyway!

I'm going in for my second fill appointment tomorrow morning 1/9. I didn't get a fill at my first appointment because I was losing about 3-4 lbs per week. In the past 4 weeks i've only lost 7 pounds, that's 1.75 per week, I guess that's good. The surgeon told me to expect only 1-2lbs per week. I'm hoping to get a fill this week. I can eat at least a cup of food at each serving and I plan little Snacks in between. I'm staying at or under my 1,000 calorie a day limit they have set. I stopped excercising since the weather has been bad.

Thanks for the advice on what to eat before a fill. My appointment is at 9am, so I think I'll just drink 1/2 a Protein shake at 7am. I have no idea what to expect as far as a post fill diet... I don't even know how many CC's are in my band.

I don't feel like my Surgeon was very thorough at my first appointment, he didn't even check out my scars or my port, he just saw how much weight i was losing, asked if I was excercising and if I was happy with the band so far. That was it... I'm hoping he's less rushed this time. I want him to check it out.

My surgery clinic mainly only does Bypass. I was only the 8th Band. They save it for special circumstances they don't give you the option... so I feel like I have to fight for more attention since i'm not the norm I guess.

I didn't know about my band size either, but I asked my doctor when I went in for my first fill. He was very informative. Just have your questions ready and MAKE him take the time with you to answer them.

I have a 4cc band and got my first fill of 1 cc at 8 wks post-op. It made it harder to get certain foods down (like dry meat or pasta), but not enough to prevent between-meals hunger. I just had a 2nd fill and am at 2 cc and it seems to be helping with the hunger, but I think I'll need another fill before I reach my "sweet spot". At any rate, I have been losing 1-2 lbs/wk steadily since surgery by eating 900-1000 cal/day including Protein Snacks and exercising every day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
