Weight Loss Smoothies

Recommended Posts

I have not been banded yet, but I was wondering about after I am banded, would Weight Loss smoothies from Jamba juice be a good or bad idea? I love having smoothie in the morning, because smoothies keep me full 'til lunch and I'm always on the go in the morning, and I will probably keep drinking my one smoothie in the morning even after surgery thats why I was wondering if I should go with the Weight Loss ones?? Thanks!!

YOu wont be able to drink it all.

I go to Tropical Smoothie and get the Protein power shakes. They put them into 2 cups for me. Drinking it all morning, and lunch, I am only able to drink 1/2 of the small cups-that is 2-3 meals. It is SO filling. One smoothie lasts me 4 days.

I dont like a big Breakfast and I want something fast. I have a smoothie most mornings. I'm not familiar with the place you are referring to. What I do is take a cup of yogurt, scoop of Protein Powder, cup of ice,1/4 c of milk throw it all in the blender and thats breakfast. And I can drink it on the go. I vary all this with different flavors of yogurt and different flavors of Protein mix.

According to Lap Band officials and even my doctors- they do not want you drinking your meals, as it defeats the whole purpose of the band. It's hard to go from drinking meals (for weight loss) to eating food (on the band) and actually believing you'll lose weight. I am a drinker, and I make myself eat a Protein based meal in the mornings to follow the guidelines. It will hold you all morning and then you won't snack until lunch. Hope this helps. I know people do drink for meals, but that is not they way Lap band is supposed to work.

You might want to look into what is in those smoothies and how many calories are in those . I had one once then saw something on Good morning america about those. They are HIGH HIGH HIGH In calories. I had one that had a Protein shot in it and looked it up later it was around 2000 calories. !!!

Also what Gloriouslady says is true . My doc does not want you to drink your Protein or your calories

Let me see if i can find the info on the smoothies too

Mindy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
