My fill had to be removed

Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 3rd of October and everything was smooth sailing until about 5 days after my first fill.

I started getting the most intense pain in my chest area and it felt like I was having a heart attack. The pain would last from anywhere between 20 min to 3 hours and it was mainly happening in the middle of the night.

After about a month I couldn't take the pain anymore and ended up back at my dr's and he removed all of my fill.

I have had every test under the sun and am going in for an endoscopy tomorrow to see if they can find out what is going on.

I was getting the pain every night for about six weeks and it was the most excruciating pain I have ever had (even worse than labour pain and I've had 3 children!!).

Although in saying all this the pain has eased considerably and I have only had it about 4 times in the last 2 weeks (and it's been very mild).

The doctor said he has never had anything like this before and he won't refill me until he finds out what's going on (very responsible of him), but extremely frustrating for me.

Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this - or am I the only one??

Never experienced that, but good luck! I hope that they find out what's going on soon!

Could have been a gall bladder attack. I was just talking about this with a friend of mine last night. She used to get them around her chest area, not the side or back like many describe. Glad you are feeling better.

The doctor initially thought it was my gall bladder, but all tests came back negative.

I had an endoscopy this morning and YAY they have finally found what the problem is and it has nothing to do with my band (thank goodness).

I have a thin linear reflux erosion extending for 1 cm above the base near my sternam, and this is causing my oesophagus to spasm - which is causing the heart attack like pain.

I have to see my doctor tomorrow who will prescribe me with some medication and all should be well within a few days - YAY - so glad it has nothing to do with my band.

I am glad that they have found the cause of the pain Rastis. Hopefully the medication will help and later on you can have another fill put in. I will be thinking of you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
