Anybody have trouble sleeping on their side?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 12/3 and I'm still having a hard time sleeping. I don't do well sleeping on my back so I fitfully switch back and forth from side to side. But I have quite a bit of pain when I lay on my side in the area where the band is. Just wondering if others have pain laying on their side.

It was a full 4 weeks before I could sleep on the side where the port is. A lot of people seem to be able to do so much sooner but my was way too uncomfortable even if I used a supportive pillow. Since that time though, I've been able to sleep normally again. :notagree

I can sleep on my right side without any problem, but there's a weird uncomfortable pulling feeling if I try to sleep on my left. Tomorrow will be three weeks since surgery for me.

I had the same problem. After surgery lying on my side was a big no-no. I think it was about 3-4 weeks that I could lay on my side. Putting a pillow under my belly when laying on the side helped some. Take it slow. It will happen.

Yep, same here, only now, 3 weeks post op can I sleep on my side, still a little discomfort around the port.

In Australia they tend to now place the port in the centre of the chest, just below where your bra line is - which is where mine is. Wondering if the pain is different for those that have their port lower down on the side of their abdomen.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
