Hi everyone

I had my post op appointment rescheduled for 11 Jan because I am breast feeding atm and they want to put me on a 2week fluuid diet before op. Do they do this for everyone? Also, did you all get a liver biopsy done at same time?

So my appointment is 11jan I am hoping I will get a date for the op, I am going public so not sure when or how long it will take for a date.

I am excited and nervous at same time.

Any advice for me :(.

Hi there,

bear with me in my ramblings here, it's 4 am and I can't sleep  I am a week post-op and still having problems getting my clock back in order.

Have you been in touch with your local LLL? They might be able to help you, or get you in touch with the hospital's lactation consultant, to help you with the breastfeeding during the pre- and post-op period.

As long as you are properly hydrated, receive enough nutrition (how many calories? 1200??), I can't see there being a problem with nursing.

You didn't mention how old your child is. Is he/she exclusively breastfed, or are they eating solids yet?

If you have supply issues, or worry about them in the future (which I can see happening with the initial post-op low calorie liquid phase, you might want to take domperidone (motillium) which increases prolactin production which will in turn increase your production.

Maybe they can look into getting you a high protein/nutrition liquid food (something like a Meal Replacement drink, but thinner consistency) during the post-op period where the band and your tummy heal.

I take a great Protein supplement called BeneProtein. It is expensive, $27 cdn a container, much cheaper in the states. You can get it at Walgreens. It is used to feed children/patients in the hospital. Very thin consistency, you can barely taste it, and it doesn't clump at all. Another supplement to consider. It is far superior than regular Protein supplements/powder that you can get from a store. It comes in a size similar to a small container of formula. If you google search it you can find more info on it .. made by Norvartis Pharmaceuticals.

I bf my first daughter until she was 3.5 and my second a little over a year (had to wean due to meds :( ), I wanted to be a lactation consultant, so please pm me if you need any more info. You're doing a wonderful thing by bf your child, please let me know if you need any more help.

 Roberta

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
