What WON'T you do to reach your goal weight?

Recommended Posts

I was banded just over a year ago and have had pretty good success. I have lost 117-120 lbs; depending on the day. I'm oddly at exactly the weight that statistically my lapband surgeon said I'd get to. However, I remember the pre-op visit where he told me that and I said, "No way, I'm going to all this trouble I'm going to be a normal weight for once in my life!" Easier said than done.

I have made changes in my life. I am so much more active and I exercise at least an hour a day. I wear my bodybugg watch religiously, and track calories trying to get that caloric deficit in every day. STill, I tend to self sabotage and undone every food days the good that I have done. It just seems that when I get powerful cravings and a desire to overeat its too much to overcome. Eating how and what I do is an addiction I am constantly fighting. I'll always be fighting those demons to some degree, but frankly I'd rather do it at my goal weight than this weight.

Sooo.....

I see ads for diet pills, weight watchers, weight programs etc....all things I have tried and failed at in the past. Sometimes I just want to try them again anyway, this time with the help of the band- I sometimes feel I'd do almost anything to get to my goal weight and then when I'm bouncing between a 3 lb weight range it wouldn't be a problem.

Is this irrational????

Um, yes. You are a success and even successful people make bad eating choices from time to time. And thats perfectly ok as long as you do it in moderation. Push it too far and it might get unhealthy, both fpr your body and mind. I got my band just to be healthier, not to be a model.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
