Hi, I 'm interested in purchasing an elliptical. Does anyone have one that they love? Please recommend any that you like and where to purchase them?

Thanks for the help.

Harmony:

I have a ProForm eliptical. I was very fortunate that my Sister gave it to me because she was using it like a clothes hanger. I love it, and hate it. It's very challenging. I've been using it for about 3 or 4 months and I can only do up to 15 minutes at a time. That's progress though because I could only do 3 minutes at first.

Good luck.

Sue

We have a Horizon...bought it from Dick's sporting goods. You can plug your MP3 player into it and it has speakers already, lots of pre-done programs, you can create your own and more than one person can have set programs in it so it remembers what you did last. It's really smooth to ride/use and quiet which makes watching tv while using it easy and enjoyable. Has a bottle holder too for your Water. We really like ours. When I went to Dicks they were marked about 50% off but, the kid there told me they're always like that. I asked what the best sale was they've had on them and he told me the previous week they were all $100 off. So I asked him to ask the manager to give me the $100 off and I'll buy it right now....they did  So I saved myself the additional $100.

I have a Proform elliptical that I got from Sears. I had problems getting it together- but they came out and fixed it for free. I love it & It was only like $350. I have had it for 6 years and it's still great. My husband loves it too! It is very basic- if I had more money maybe I would get a fancier model. But since I'm in my house with TV and Stereo- I figure I don't really need tose plug ins. It monitors only the basics, but that is good enough I spose.

I have a Nordic Track AudioStrider 600 and I love it. I was a little skeptical about getting this machine, because some of the reviews were bad. I've had it for about 2 months and it works great. It has a bottle holder for Water, installed workout programs (it actually talks to you), a fan, and you can purchase these little chips that have additional workout programs on them. I'm still pretty heavy and this machine is smooth and sturdy. It was regularly $799.99 and I got it for $499.99, which I think is a pretty good deal. Nordic Track is one of the better brands too.

I have an Eclipse and LOVE it. It has preset programs, or you can do your own. It measures heart rate also, so I can check myself. I bought it from another individual who was crazy enough to sell it to me for 60 bucks! She just wanted it out of her house.

I like to vary my workouts and am now up to 45 minutes per day.

A friend gave me my elliptical machine (she preferred a treadmill) and I LOOOOOOVE it. I'm not even sure what brand mine is, but I'd say getting an elliptical (any brand) is a good decision. It's so easy and I think it's even a little fun. Definitely low impact if you have knee issues. I've had stair steppers and treadmills and this is by far my favorite exercise machine!

Harmony, not sure if anyone else has mentioned this yet or not...but regardless of the brand you buy, the absolute BEST thing about the elliptical is the easy gliding action!!!

I was walking 3miles/day twice a week and my knees were KILLING ME! And that was just by WALKING...now w/the elliptical that I got for Christmas, I can RUN over a mile at a time and NEVER have any knee/joint pain!

Only pain I get now is from sore muscles that aren't used to the workout! lol. its a Good pain though, trust me! You'll realize you have muscles in places you didn't know you had! Its awesome!

Not sure how heavy you are or how much weight you have to lose, but I would suggest the Elliptical to ANYONE! Especially if you don't want your joints to hurt.

I'm on the 2008 Exercise Challenge w/the Elliptical. 365 miles in 365 days...so i'm pretty much on mine everyday (unless i get lazy and take a break - which happens)....I LOVE IT!

xoxo, Christie

btw - mine is a nordictrack that i got at Sports Authority.

but just in case you wanna buy a used one, try craigslist, my aunt got hers there for a fraction of the price and it was only used once before she got it.

no problem! i'm 5'2" and was at 264 before banding. now, i'm still 5'2"...lol..but now down to 235 and banded 09/14/07....about 3.5 months ago.

goodluck w/finding yourself an elliptical. they're not the cheapest in the world, but if you aren't sure about it, check out craigslist. the only reason i got a brand new one is bc i came across a deal too good to pass up. mine was just $50 more then a used one and i got it brand new.

xoxo, christie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
