New year, new me!!

Recommended Posts

Howdy from North Texas! This is my first forum ever. With dial up doing the internet has not been very fun for me. However, changing is in the attitude: slow is better than not at all.

Anyway, I got banded 10/07 and have only lost 43 lbs. Hoiwever, the band has been the best thing I ever did. This year will be different and my first stop is here...What do most people expect and get from forums? Hopefullly I will get and give support and have lots of success. I did not get up to 280 because I did not have issues around food.

Thanks for being here.

Welcome fig, 43 lbs is GREAT! I get banded on 01-17 and cannot wait, even though I'm scared to death I know this is the right decision. I'm on my dr's pre-op diet of sugar busters. Day 5 of it and going good. I have killer caffeine withdrawal headaches but I just keep trying to take it a day at a time. I have gotten so much info from this forum and support. There is literally everything youd ever want to know about lapband. My favorite thing is the chat so you can talk live with ppl and ask them your specific questions. PPL on the chat have been SO helpful because they know what its like to be in my shoes! It may be tough for you to get on it with dialup but there is plenty of info in the forums to keep you busy! Good luck and congrats on your weightloss!

So cool, to get a response from a post already. Then I noticed my mistake. I was banded in 10/2006 not 2007. I have had the lapband over a year and two months. So my weighloss is not as drastic. Only three a month, not 20 a month. I did expect to get drastic weightloss that did not happen. However, Like I said before the lapband is the best thing that I ever did. As a lover of food and binge eater before I would put weight right back on and more. The lap band has helped me deal with eating behaviors that were unhealthy. That is why I decided to try a forum to foster a support group. My Dr has a support group, but I did not want to drive the distance.

Don't be discourage fig, I have seen many people that are slow losers, in fact there is an entire forum devoted to ppl who have that same problem as you. Do a search on the lapbandtalk forum for 'slow loser' and hopefully it will pull it up.. You are not alone but be very proud that you have LOST and not gained 43 lbs. I know my lifestyle before my decision to do this and I too was a binge eater, boredom eater, hell I lived for food...My entire day was scheduled around what we were going to eat...Be proud that you are losing, even if it is slow..Hopefully you can get some tips on what to do to start losing faster in here..Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
