i got my first fill today

Recommended Posts

i just went to the nutrionist today and she said that i should be getting full on 1/2 a cup of food. ive been eating at least a cup if not more. i asked if i could have a Protein Shake each day just to get my Protein in but she said by the time you add a few strawberries and milk it will be high in calories. i am still trying to get the diet down pack. they say protein first, then veg, starch, fruit. sometimes the protein doesnt fill me up that well. i went to the doctors today as well and she gave me an unexpected fill of .5 cc. i thought that i would be really full seeming how i got a fill today but i dont fell much difference. i am a little sore from the fill but cant really tell that i have restriction. i will have to really try hard to eat a little and stick to protein until my next fill. i am suprised to say that my fill didnt hurt at all. my doctor gave me some laticane first. she believes on giving small amounts of saline at first to be cautious. i have a question- i bought some low carb slimfast that have 20grams of protein with 190 calories is this ok to drink once a day? at my informative meeting before surgery they didnt recommend drinking Protein Drinks.< /p>

Gosh, i'm really surprised they didn't recommend Protein drinks because my nutritionist said it is impossible to get that 55-60 grams of Protein just on what you eat. Protein keeps me from getting hungry.

Sounds like the slimfast is good, lots of protein, and not too many carbs.

I would verify that Protein Drink thing, that just doesn't sound right to me according to what my nutritionist and doctor have said.

i think that i will have one or two a day as long as i keep track of my calories and carbs. it seems like a good way to get Protein in. my doctor did tell me that she would rather have me eat the protein than drink it though

My doctor's nutritionist says no Protein shakes also, because they are a liquid and don't stay in the band and give you a full feeling. However, I just had one for Breakfast because I am never hungry in the morning and know I won't want anything to eat til lunch. Evenings are my heavy eating time, and I would never attempt to make it through on just a Protein shake.

I make mine with Water instead of milk to keep the calories down. Actually, the one I just had was made with leftover coffee, splenda, ice, and a dash of cinnamon. Since my base was a low sugar Protein powder, total calories were about 165. I understand what the nutritionist was saying in that using liquids for meals is not exactly working with the band, but I think this works for me.

By the way, I know all doctors are different, but mine says no solids for three days with the first fill. However, he is more aggressive with the fill amount--I got 1.7cc for a first fill.

My nutritionist said it doesn't matter to them as long as I get my Protein in. I usually drink one for Breakfast too, I'm rarely hungry in the mornings anyway.

I love the coffee idea. I can't drink my Protein drinks with Water alone, yuck! I have been using skim milk, but I'll have to give the coffee a try. I will probably use 3/4 coffee, 1/4 milk combo.

My nutritionist also sd it is impossible to get all the Protein that you need a day just from food. I drink one each night with milk right now. I get 22 grams of protein from one scoop which I mix with 1/2c skim milk. it is chocolate flavored and actually tastes pretty good. 116 Calories from the powder with 3g carb. It is called Maximum Protein and I get it GNC.< /p>

I guess I'm confused. Why does the nutritionist think you have to add strawberries and milk to Protein shakes??? Protein Shakes are usually made with Water. Obviously if someone is trying to consume more calories they can add stuff like fruit and milk but most brands are designed to be made with Water. I'm not supposed to make mine with milk unless I'm low on calories or have another reason for it.

Any way, it's true that liquids go through faster but there's so much protein in those shakes that I don't think it's really a factor. I'd say a large percentage of us are being told to drink at least one a day, some are asked to drink even more. I'm supposed to eat six times per day and one of those times is my shake so I cannot eat six times per day PLUS do a shake. I get that concept of don't use a shake like a snack or a drink...use it as a meal. So, if you incorporate shakes in this way too I can't personally see any harm in it.

I really hate when someone tells us we should be full on 1/2 cup of food. I've had my band a year and a half and 1/2 cup of food has never been enough!! I've done just fine so my doctor doesn't worry about this. Don't feel bad if you are not full on 1/2 c. Just don't eat until you are full (bad for band). Eat until you are satisfied, if that's more than 1/2 c. and you are losing weight then who cares?!

I also use protein shakes from time to time. Especially for breakfast when I'm feeling too tight to eat solids. However, I still wanted to address the idea that there are nutritionalists out there saying you can't hit 60+ grams of protein in a day just from banded foods. It may not be easy to each day but here is one example of a days food that would fit.

Breakfast - Egg & cheese omelet

lunch - tuna salad served on 1/2 a boiled egg (Like a Deviled Egg but with Tuna)

dinner - Baked Tilapia with a couple broccoli florets and a tablespoon of mashed potatoes.

Shoot, I can't find my old post with a breakdown on the protein/carbs/etc. but it did come out over 60 grams of protein as well as low-carb/low-calories.

since i got my first fill on friday i have lost 5 lbs and have been sticking to 800-1000 calories a day and exercising. i have noticed a little difference since banded but not much. i dont feel to full when eating 1/2 a cup of food but im not starving either. i do eat a yogurt or fruit cup or Water inbetween meals which helps a little and helps with head hunger to. today i was really hungry though. i did good all day but when i got home i ate about 1/2 bag of 100 calorie pack popcorn and i wuffed it down like it was going out of style. i havent binged like that since ive had surgery almost 7 weeks ago. then 1/2 hour later i ate my supper. i cant believe that i could hold all of that food. i havent cheated on anything in one week and have done well on proportions until tonight. i even had one cookie today. for some reason i was really hungry today and had some cravings. i guess its normal to have days which you can eat more and feel like eating but now that im banded i dont want to risk anything especially my band.

andrea

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
