Has anyone asked their Dr for suggestions for getting enough Fiber through our diets.

The high Protein diet is "clogging" me up big time and I prefer to get my fiber from real food.< /p>

Before surgery, I accomplished this with whole wheat bread, apples and popcorn. Now what do I use?

I plan on looking for some high fiber Meal Replacement type or snack bars. In the meantime I bought some Miralax. It is a powder that you mix in a drink. I can't taste it, but I know It's artifical fiber and prefer "real" fiber.

Any suggestions? :help:

I just started using a powder too, Fiber-Sure.

I do eat apples and popcorn too.

Fiber-One bars are yummy. 140 calories 9 grams of fiber and Curves bars are good too. 100 calories 5 grams of fiber.

Hi. I eat whole grain breads - I prefer those made at Panera or Atlanta bread. Generally, I ditch the soft bread part and eat the crust. Sometimes toasted works OK. Also, I mix wheat germ into my yogurt and have added ground flax seed to my Protein Shakes. Steph

Does the flax seed come already ground? Do you buy it in regular or health food type store?

I like the idea of adding the natural kind of fiber. I will try the wheat germ and look for other ways to add it to food.

all great ideas, thanks

Even with serious restriction, I can eat peanuts, or prunes, and that helps with any issues that come up for me. I can also eat popcorn.

I used to think I had Constipation after being banded, never had that pre-band, but realize now.. small amounts in = really small amounts out. I used to go every day, now, not every day and surprisingly small quantity! Hope it all works out for you! lol

So encouraging to hear that some of you can tolerate popcorn nuts, apples. I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky ones that can tolerate these foods down the road.

At six weeks out I have restricted myself to easy to eat foods and avoided foods that I fear I'll have problems getting down.

I have tried a little Cereal to help, that was just before my recent fill and haven't been ready to re-try it.

I used to eat Raisin Bran years ago, but changed to a lower carb cereal ( Special K Low Carb) and recently bought one of the Kashi cereals to try ( Go Lean).

I have to check the nutirtion labels for how much fiber and then experiment with how much daily fiber "moves" things along.

It's not the "quantity" of evacuation, but rather an issue of how frequent ( 5 days is too long) or how difficult it is to pass once I'm ready to go. (Hope I said that delicately enough)

Thanks for some great suggestions!

I get my flax seed from a friend, but I think she buys it already ground. It's not powdery, but just very, very small.

I also eat Post Bran Flakes. Be careful of Kashi - I got on a GoLeanCrunch kick for a while. It's yummy and wonderful, but packs a lot of calories into a single serving. I still have it if I want, but I was eating a lot for a while and don't now. I agree with Maziemommy - small amount in, small amount out. It's something to get used to!

My husband bought the Kashi and he tends to buy things without looking at nutrition label. I always look at that before I start using a new product, too much can be hiding in foods that are supposed to be healthy.

Thanks!

Frosted Mini Wheats... amazing Fiber with amazing results.

I used to eat them as a snack (just 1 week out of surgery, so I can't eat them yet..)

Drink lots of Water and you won't have any trouble doing what needs to be done.. *giggle*

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
