Post Surgery Throat pain

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 12/31/07 and I am having throat pain. I am so thirsty all the time and when I take a drink, it is like it gets stuck in my throat at the top. I sometimes end up vomiting up what just went in. It is like a stone stuck in my throat and I can't swallow it. Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be swelling from the breathing tube? Will it go away? Please help. I need a light at the end of the tunnel.:help::whoo:

Steph, out of curiousity do you know if your doctor filled your band partial way during the surgery? If not, I would consider this swelling. You may want to consult with your doctor. Good luck.

Are you sleeping on your back?

My throat was so dry and really hurting, until I realized that I was sleeping on my back because my port site was so sore that I couldn't sleep on my side as usual. Normally, sleeping on your stomach promotes snoring, which is sleeping with your mouth open, promoting drying and a sore throat. I don't know, just a thought.

I experienced this for about 2-3 days after surgery from the tube. (Had surgery Dec 28th)

If it continues, call and let your doctor know. Or if it will reassure you, you may want to call and let them know exactly what you are feeling. I'm sure everything is probably okay, and its all normal.

Yeah, the breathing tube scratched my throat too. If it's really bothersome then call otherwise I'd guess that's all it is. It should heal in a few days.

I think the throat problem may be the anesthesia where they insert a breathing tube. I had the same problem. I don't know about the stuck feeling though. Did they fill your lapband at surgery time at all? sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't. You may need an unfill if that is the case.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
