Hi Trentchuck,

I had my lapband done at University of Penn in Philly, Dr. Noel Williams and his team aresecond to none. I can't say enough about them. Check out the web site for the hospital, you can read about him and his team. Good luck with your search and journey!

I live near you and chose to use Dr. Mehta in New Brunswick, surgery was at Somerset Medical Center. It takes me about an hour to get to his office and he has a great support group as well as wonderful office staff. I'm not sure how many people he's banded as of right now. As of my surgery he has yet to loose anyone, including bypass patients. If you google Mehta Bariatric Center you'll be able to find him.

If you're willing to travel to NYU, Dr. Fielding is a pioneer and after having surgery with him two weeks ago I can tell you that I am most satisfied with the service there. Their staff is so helpful and informative and they cover EVERY step for you to make the process easy. He has an excellent success rate and an excellent rate of people NOT having slipped bands. You should check him out. Google NYU program for surgical weight loss. Good luck!!

I don't know where your town is in NJ but if it's anywhere closer to the Delaware side then the Delmarva Bariatric Center is absolutely wonderful. They have a great program with awesome results. They have offices in Delaware and Maryland. Just tossing that out there in case you are close enough to consider it.

Where are you looking to go??? Are you going thru insurance? Self pay?? All these things should be considered when looking at having this surgery.... plus the experience of the surgeon.

Take care and best wishes

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
