Cigna Insurance: 6 month supervised diet

Recommended Posts

I have Cigna and am starting the process for approval for the Lapband. I did Jenny Craig for six months last summer on my own and wasn't thinking about the Lapband at the time. I lost 60 pounds but then I had to stop because it cost so much. I have now gained almost all of it back and I am at the end of my line. I can't keep doing this to myself.

My question is: Will Cigna accept those 6 months on Jenny Craig? Or will I have to do a physician supervised diet for the next six months?

I have called them and one lady said Jenny Craig was fine but when I read the policy it stated it was not sufficient, but it was worded weird... What have your experiences been?

not for sure what your docs will say, but mine told me jenny craig, weight watchers, anything else like that DOESN'T count. its not medically supervised. sorry! hope you get a different answer!

I dont know anything about Cigna but BCBS will accept Jenny Craig and WW but you have to be going to see a dr at least 1x a month for them to monitor your progress....plus you lost 60lbs....thats a good bit...they might deny you saying that you can lose the weight without surgery...just a thought....

I am enrolled in Cigna PPO. My insurance documentation indicates a six (6) month physician supervised diet is required for the lap band preocedure

i also have cigna and did jenny craig before starting this band business. they didn't count it. also they won't cover any doctor supervised weight loss program which pissed me off big time...

I have cigna and they covered all my visit to my PCP for my diet. It was a co pay just like any other time i went to see her. However they would not cover the nutritionist. So I am not sure why they wouldn't cover yours. I don't know personally about the Jenny Craig but the paper I got from St. Agnes says they will use Jenny Craig, LA weight loss, but it needs to be 6 mths or 2 3 mths consecutive not skipping. But like I said I didn't go that way.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
