Hi guys, well went in for my 5th fill this morning after my last one 2 months ago. I wanted to ask if there any australian bandsters out there. my dr. went there i am assuming during the christmas holidays. He now wants me to come in every month for follow ups and possibly a fill if i need one. He said that the australian doctors want to make sure that everything is going well. Since the band promotes slower weight loss, I guess its been proven by the doctors to see that weight loss is no more than 1-2 lbs. Help me out australian bandsters!!!

Hi Goodtimes

I'm an aussie and got my band in on the 17 December. My doctor does a lot of follow up in the first year - I think a total of 12 appointments but a lot of these are dietician, physio and psychologist. I think my program includes 3 fill appointments in the first year and probably 3 appointment in the first year with the actual doctor for follow up.

After the first year they encourage you to come for a consultation with the doctor every 6 to 12 months.

For the first year I went in monthly, second year I went in every 3 to 6 months, and now that I am going into my third year, I imagine I will only see him every six months or if there is a problem.

I think the idea is to offer support if needed, and just to keep an eye on how you are doing.

Thanks guys for the responses. My dr. was only going to see me every 2 months maybe even more since I have no problems at all with the fills, etc. but after the trip, he changed his mind. I love my doctor and if he can go and find out what other countries are doing for their patients, man my dr. will be the bomb here in the states.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
