swallowing pregnancy pills

Recommended Posts

Despite logical reasoning, I really want to get pregnant. I started taking 2 prenatal Vitamins this week, then remembered that we are not supposed to swallow pills. Can anyone explain this to me? They certainly didn't get stuck or anything. What's so bad about swallowing pills? And do you think I could just break them up and still take them? Also...is there anyone out there crazy like me who wants to get pregnant or has already gotten pregnant?

Good for you and congratulations....I hope the process is easy peasy and fun as all get out!

As for prenatals...I take one still (stopped nursing my twins in Sept) because they are great Vitamins and covered by insurance...

anyway...after my last fill I had to cut them in half for a while..but now I can swallow them whole.

The problem is getting stuck...drink with a ton of Water and cut them if you have to...don't mash...they may lose some potency.

Kudos to you for taking them...prenatals are vital to the health of an unborn baby and good for mom as well.

Make sure you talk to your lap band doctor before getting pregnant. They generally want you to wait 18 months after surgery before becoming pregnant.

If you can get the pills down, you can take them. A lot of times, with the restriction, people can't swallow the pills without them getting stuck.

Good luck on your future pregnancy!

I believe the 18 month rule applies more to bypass patients. My doctor told me "If you were to get pregnant tomorrow, it would be no problem" and that was the day before surgery.

The rules on pills seem to differ by doc too. I was never told not to swallow pills, and only avoid it when I feel super tight, or early in the morning. Your pharmacist should be able to tell you which ones you can crush as well.

Thanks for the comments and advice. Since it has only been about 6 months since banding, I have a feeling my doctor will not like my plans so soon, but if my God and body are willling, then I hope to add a second child to our home by the end of the year. I have not had problems with the pills going down, but this morning I started breaking them in half. I will see the doc. next week to discuss everything. I just wanted to go ahead and start taking the pills since they are really helpful for your body if you plan to get pregnant.

Prenatals are good for bandsters anyway, I forget what now, but there was something in them (maybe the folic acid??) that my doc recommended I do prenatals. I got some chewable ones that were so horrid, I went back to Flinstones. If you can swallow them, kudos!

My doc said 18 months for RNY patients to get pregnant, he said many get pregnant in the first year because they didn't think they were fertile, but lose weight, get pregnant.. and he said many of them resulted in miscarriages due to malnutrition.

Funny, I do not want any more children (my baby is going on 22- I had him one month before turning 20). I had to sign paperwork at my doctors and it cracked me up-it said "I promise not to get pregnate for 18 months."

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
