Self Payers?

Recommended Posts

oh, posted before I saw your post. 5 hours is better than an airplane. I had a 38 BMI and they did mine. Co-morbidity was Cholesterol (like who doesn' have either high chol. or BP - usually one of those is all it takes.. I am sorta surprised, you being self pay)

I think they only do the surgery in Cincy, though. Fills in Columbus.

I have until Monday to make up my mind, that's when I told everyone I'd call back.

Dr. Curry is currently charging $12,500 including 2 years of adjustments. His experience is probably worth the drive!

I was banded by him a year ago and have done great so far, down 62 lbs and already to my goal. Almost his whole staff is banded, which is awesome.

Where is Dr. Curry located? I am thinking of going to Michigan as self pay this year. Total price is $11,700 without adjustments. Thanks!

I live in Akron, Ohio and I am wondering if it would be better to have the surgery in Michigan and have my fills done locally, The surgery is $11,700 and 5 fills are $350 in Akron. Having the fills done locally would save me a lot of time on the road. I currently weigh at 287 and want to get down to about 160. On average, how many fills has everyone had to have to achieve lets say, 50, 75, or 100 lb weight loss. I am a Registered Nurse and realize there are variables in every case. Thanks for the input!

I went with Dr. Curry (and I'm right near you in Medina!). It's about a 3 hour drive to his office. The $12,500 includes fills for 2 years. Also, he does the first fill under floro, so you get a more aggressive one.

I'm excited! 11 days to go!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
