Banded and Doing well

Recommended Posts

Good Morning,

I can't believe that I haven't posted here yet. I read everyday and just realized that I haven't told everyone that I was Banded Feb 3, 2005. Everything went really well. A bit of trouble getting the breathing tube in, but I was made aware that it might be a problem so I didn't freak out to much, and it was over very quickly and the next thing I knew I was in the recovery room.

I live in Indianapolis and traveled to Cincinnati to have surgery with a really great surgeon Dr. Trace Curry.

I was walking to the Bathroom the night of Surgery and walking down the hall the next morning.

I did spend two nights in the hosptial due to the distance from home and the bit of trouble with the breathing tube. Doctor being extra careful is fine by me. I wanted to stay the extra night also because I didn't want to travel two hours the day after surgery.

Came home and have been doing pretty well ever since. There have been times when I have felt a bit "baby blueish" and sometimes a little uncomfortable then others. But not bad. Nothing too bad at all. And every day is better then the one before.

I am 10 days out I think. I have lost 16 pounds or so. Healing nicely. Not too hungry. Still on mostly liquids with some thicker things added slowly.

You guys are such a wealth of information. I truly appreciate all of you. I have been reading here since I first heard of Lap Banding and have gained so much knowledge. I know it has made the journey thus far so much easier. And I know I will continue to need you. And I hope to be able to give back to others.

thanks to everyone.

Hugs

Vicki in Indy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
