Anybody else advanced to real food?

:)Good morning,

Went to my 3 week appt. yesterday and I am down 24 lbs.

They also advanced my diet to real foods - although there are some exceptions.

What stage were/are you at 3 weeks?

I tried a mini-ground sirloin burger last night. Could only eat an oz.

That really wasn't such a great pick. But, it had been so long and I

luckily haven't had a problem.

But the burger didn't go down so well even after small bites and really

chewing.

I have been eating soild since day 15 my doctor said just keep it at 1/2 cup I had my post opt appoint right at 2 week post opt I was down 10.5 now I can eat whatever I have been working out I am down another 7lbs I get my first fill on Jan7

I found that I cannot eat dry chicken breast, chicken nuggets and french fries, so far I PB once on chicken nuggest and the fries got stuck and I chewed ...... Dr. said just give it a try , if you have problems frist time leave it alone

I've been on real food for a little over a week . . . but I'm really cautious as to what I'm trying. We were told no red meat for a year . . .it's tough to digest . . . so I'm a salmon fiend . . . I poach a piece in chicken broth and then break it into small contains for several meals. I haven't done anything fried or breaded . . . I'm a little leary to venture too far yet - not that I want fried or breaded lol. Good luck!

I would know what to do no red meat by Dr. said that I can eat anything that agrees with me, I had pork chops, steak, roast , but I only eat 2 oz

Yes - I have to leave that dry sirloin burger alone.

Trouble is I live in a kinda rural area and its about 30 minutes to get fresh fish.

There is a Trader Joe's about 45 min. away and I know the frozen fish there is decent.

Any suggestions on frozen fish?

I go for my first fill jan7th. I have been eating solids since week 3. I notice that my appetite is not as huge as it use to be, although I have had a couple attempts at filling my face over the holidays. I am trying to sabotage my success. I pb'd once and that was awful. I had wine for new years and it made me sick. Not looking forward to my fill, feel this was all a big mistake. Does anyone else feel the same?

So sorry you are feeling badly.

This too shall pass. It is suchhhhhhhhhhh and adjustment to eat such small portions - my eyes are bigger than my pouch thing.

Just know we are here for you.

and - remember why you did this in the first place.

I broke doc's orders and started real food. I couldn't stand not eating normally for this long when I felt totally normal and very hungry. VERY hungry. I have absolutely no restriction (although I'm not eating as much at one sitting as I used to) I want to, I probably could, but I don't for fear I'll make my band slip. I'm chewing everything very well and sipping Water with each bite so that it is sort of like a soft food. :o

I know I'm gaining back some of the weight I lost pre-op. I can't wait for my first fill.

I started real food on Christmas Day - so about 3 weeks. At the moment I can eat anything and I want a fill NOW.:hungry:

For those who really want (and are allowed red meat) try cooking it in a crock pot (slow cooker) don't know what they are called in the States. Also try it with a low fat, low cal sauce/gravy as this will help it down. I cook all my meat this way including chicken. Cooked lamb shanks on the weekend - cooked for 7 hours - the meat just fell off the bone it was that tender - so loved it.

I moved to real food last week as well. Since my wife is banded as well she has warned me about some of her trouble foods, so I've been avoiding things like bread and salad and anything that's made her puke (might as well learn the easy way).

I guess we're kind of in a limbo stage now -- solid foods, but no restriction. I get a fill in two more weeks and I think things will change then. Right now I'm able to eat quite a bit, although like someone else said, not as much as I used to.

I dont have probs. with thin cream of wheat or thin cream Soup. sipping my way through 4oz of Protein Shake. drinking plenty of Water.< /p>

should I be concerned?

Hi,

You might have made them too firm - even though scrambled eggs are soft you will still need to make them a bit on the runny side for your first few attempts. Do you like soft boiled eggs - I found that these mashed up well were better than scrambled.

lachica - my only concern would be that you should track your Protein intake. It will help you heal better. I strive for

50-60g/day - but I know alot of others have a much higher protein goal.

There seem to be great discrepancies in what we all are able to (from the band) eat. Some can eat red meat, some can eat anything, some can't even get scrambled eggs down. I seem to be able to eat a small amount of anything- I just finished a two egg omelet and even a few days ago when, after 9 hours overnight into morning in the ER with my daughter, blew it on an egg/sausage/cheese on an english muffin, I ate it just fine. (Everything else has been okay in the mushie stage; I go on solids in two days)

For those who have greater capacity or ease, does this mean the band may have slipped? I'm worried- I will not be eating that sandwich again! Does anyone know if there are any true signs as to whether the band has slipped? This is obviously a worst fear scenario! Yikes!
