Cardiologist found something

Recommended Posts

Went to the Cardiologist last week and was told they found something wrong with my heart. :think I have aortic valve leakage, which means blood is flowing back into my heart and the heart is working harder to pump the blood to the rest of my body. The dr said I will eventually need a valve replacement and will be on medication for the rest of my life. I have to go for a stress test before they will let me know if I can still go ahead with the lap band. Not only do I have to deal with the heart condition, but deal with the fact that I may not be able to get banded.

Does anyone out there know of someone who has this condition and was able to still get banded?

You maybe frustrated re the band, but aren't you glad they found out about your heart problem? No sense being thin if you're dead.

Let's all put our priorities right. We all want to look good, but the real reason we are doing this is to be HEALTHY. It seems to me that taking care of your heart problem should be your #1 priority.

I know that you are disappointed, but try to look at the bright side of things and keep a positive outlook. All will work out in the end.

Lori:)

I agree with Lori. YOu are so fortunate that they found this problem before it put you in the hospital or caused your demise.

The Lapband will wait and even if you cant have it done now, with correction of the heart problem, it can certainly be done later. I know it is hard to look at the bright side, but the Lapband probably saved your life post op! I am sure that they will find a solution for you and you will be able to start your journey.

Thank you for the responses. I AM thankful that the dr found the problem, especially before it was too late. The last fews days I have been on a roller coaster of emotions, scared, thankful, etc. I do want to make sure that I take of my heart and am around for a long time-especially for my two children. Becoming healthy was the goal the entire time.

But the doctor did say that I may still be able to have the band, and I was wondering if there is anyone out there who had it done with this kind of heart condition. If I can't get the band so be it. At leadt I will still be around:D

Thank you again for your responses;-)

Oh, Holly, what an ordeal! But it's true--you have something to be deeply thankful for. Your children would so much rather have you around with a few extra pounds and a healthy heart than...well, you know the end of that sentence.

Take care of yourself! Who knows--perhaps fixing your heart problem will increase your energy (and/or metabolism?) and some weight will come off in that way! The cosmos works in mysterious ways, but I am convinced it is always for the better.

Best wishes to you and your family. Hug them!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
